  1. Some recent #yoyo stuff. Music by Munro, from the "Thank You Dream Girl" #HitEm comp. Yo-yo is an Icarus.

  2. Y’all, I finally found the PERFECT carrying case for my iPod! #ipod #selfie #HitEm

  3. Back in July, the musician Drew Daniel had a dream about a new musical genre with "super crunched out sounds" and a break-neck tempo called "hit em". Four months later, here's a 27-track compilation in this style.

"Aside from the appeal of the origin story, it’s just cool to hear the ways that so many different producers choose to interpret one brief but quite specific set of guidelines."

  4. Currently listening to: this recently released official* #HitEm compilation. There are some rather nice tracks there (as there are on the previous, less official, hit’em compilation from a few months ago). Thank you, dreamgirl, for making 5/4 time a semi-popular phenomenon again.

    * official in the sense of having a Matmos track on it

  5. I wrote more about #HitEm style here: docpop.org/2024/08/hit-em-a-mu

Another Hit Em style compilation, "Disposable Heroes Of Hit Em", was released back in August: suitablybizarre.bandcamp.com/a

    Both compilations are great!

  6. "Thank You, Dream Girl.", a compilation of #HitEm style tracks, is out now!

It started off with a viral social media post:

“Had a dream I was at a rave talking to a girl and she told me about a genre called “hit em” that is in 5/4 time at 212 bpm with super crunched out sounds. Thank you, dream girl."

Musicians started sharing songs in this bizarre style, so Drew and #MachineDrum picked 27 of their favorite Hit Em tracks for this super-crunched out comp: tabula-rasa-records.bandcamp.c

  7. Huh that #HitEm compilation I have some tracks on got reviewed on Daze Digital, alongside that Māori alt-rock musician I recommended a week or two back, Greatsouth. Not as mindblowing as being in Resident Advisor, but certainly not complaining!

  8. Eprom posted a few new "Hit Em" style tracks on his instagram. This one is a real banger! It's got that 5/4 feel, at 212bpm, and performed entirely on a M8. instagram.com/p/C-qDiGJuj3W/?h #HitEm #M8 #Eprom #EDM

  9. Um, the fun and it's-in-the-name disposable #HitEm compilation I contributed 3 tracks to just got reviewed on Resident Advisor, which must surely be the biggest website related to #ElectronicMusic in the world.

The reviewer says nice things about my track as Chet Jaguar.

  10. I wrote an earnest blog post about making hit em tracks in response to a tweet about a dream, and seeing the Eno documentary

  11. 1/2 of Matmos dreamed of an electronic musical genre in 5/4 time and 212 beats per minute. His post went viral and compilations of this micro-genre are already being released.

  12. @jet i finally got around to listening to all of this, and it’s so great? happy to give some monies for this. nice!

  14. A friend organised this #HitEm compilation in a week. It was really fun to follow the theme in the title and just knock out three silly (but not intentionally bad) tracks in as many nights.

Also nice that Drew Daniel who had the dream about this silly genre shared the album and enthused about it.

  15. This whole #HitEm thing is actually some really smart viral advertising for a new Matmos album.

And now Machinedrum is making a HitEm compilation...
(send your HitEm tracks to [email protected])

Of course because it's a famous musician on twatter, it's going to be huge.

I guess someone looking at #BonkWave was taking notes.

    Just sayin'

  16. I'm not sure if this qualifies as #HitEm. If not, I'm pretty sure it may be #bonkwave

    If it's #notBonkwave, at least it's #MicroTonal.

  17. @protman no you need 5 quarter notes. that's 5 beats per bar. no matter what your LPB is (I keep it at 8), your pattern length must be a multiple of [LPB times 5]. in case of LPB=8 thats 40, 80,120 etc. It helps if you have "highlight every LPB lines" in song options (it's default), and you can set also metronome to "beats per bar" to 5.

  18. "it has been a literal “dream come true” to hear people actually creating “hit em” tracks (I have started tinkering on some too). Shout out to the mystery girl who started it all. Keep it locked at 5/4 and 212 bpm!"

    -- Drew Daniel

    Is anyone making #HitEm tracks?

  19. Knocked out a #HitEm track for a friend’s disposable compilation last night. Really fun!

I guess unsurprisingly at 212 bpm the timing gaps between the beats are tiny, so to me a lot of it registers as different amounts of swing

  20. With all the buzz about #hitem , these Oblique Strategies cards also provide a tempo
