  1. In the end, my talented friend Marie-Louise, one of the few licensed traditional Genevois costume makers, sewed the dresses and blouses! She made 1 for me (left) & my daughter, in the two permitted colours. These are the « costume genevois de travail », i.e. week wear dresses, as opposed to the more fancy flowery Sunday dresses.

    We’ll use them for our concert at the Fête de la Musique in June. #sewing #costume #historicalsewing #costumesuisse #suisse #geneve #yodel #jodl #CoeurDesYodleuses

  2. Yesterday we went for a walk and @diegor took a few pictures of the flannel shirt I've just finished (and I forgot to button it up completely before the pictures were taken, uoooops)

The pattern is always sewing-patterns.trueelena.org/… , but I've cut away the excess material in the front rather than pleating it.

  3. Project red shirt has started!

red as in Garibaldi, not as in Star Trek, and right now I've only done one cut, and then moved on to other things (it was time for tea :D ), but I plan to finish cutting most pieces tomorrow and then start (slowly) #sewing

  4. @tefferbear and people who has made 18th century #stays : I'm reading the instructions for the #AugustaStays and they say to layer the fabric, starting from the outside, as outer layer, heavyweight linen interlining, buckram, so that buckram is towards the body, with just the optional lining separating it from the shift.

Do you have any idea why it isn't layered as outer layer, buckram, heavyweight lining?

  5. I have been on PTO for eight hours, am still working on the skirt of my #1780sLoki dress, have a Renaissance tunic I want to make for my birthday in January.... And I can feel in my bones that I'm only weeks away from deciding I need to try to make another pair of stays.

Note that basically every time I get bored or antsy, I decide to make stays. I think I've made.... Three so far during COVID?
