Just came across this #HistoricalMarker website, which seems like a cool thing to exist.

For three years, I've been running down the stories behind a series of bronze tablets the city of #Albany NY created in 1886 for the bicentennial of its 1686 city charter. I finally got to the last one, No. 47, showing the site of the old state Capitol building.

Albany Bicentennial Tablet 46 – a #marker honoring "Jewish Congregations," which I suppose was originally placed on this structure when it was Temple Beth Emeth. Haven't found the marker, but I did try to give a capsule history of the major #Jewish congregations in #Albany, including Albany's role in reform Judaism as the home of Rabbi Isaac Wise.

We're in the bonus round – the #Albany Bicentennial Markers that somehow were not recorded by the Bicentennial Committee in 1886. This one marks Madison Avenue and makes note of one of its former names, but doesn't provide more than that. Hoxsie will at least tell you who Lydius was.

#30DayMapChallenge 🗺️ Day 1️⃣4️⃣: #Europe 🌍
For today’s theme, here are the locations with photos of all known and extant #HistoricalMarkers (aka commemorative plaques) found in Europe that were created by the National Historical Commission of the #Philippines (#NHCP). It turns out that these are all related to our national hero José Rizal since he traveled extensively in Europe.
(I was fortunate enough to visit the 2 markers in Germany and would love to visit the rest!)

I often write about the #LocalHistory of #AlbanyNY – I've been focused on telling the stories of a series of #markers put up during the city's charter #bicentennial.
The latest entry tells some stories of one of #Albany's shortest streets, Norton Street, where #AaronBurr once practiced law.https://hoxsie.org/2023/07/10/albany-bicentennial-tablet-no-39-norton-street/

This week on my #LocalHistory blog, I uncovered nothing and solved no mystery. For some reason, the 1886 #AlbanyNY Bicentennial Committee chose to honor a street that was barely a street then, only an alley now. The #HistoricalMarker went missing more than a century ago, and I personally know every person who knows where Dean Street is.

The latest in my series on the city of Albany, NY's bicentennial markers, placed in 1886. This one refers to three events in Academy Park – one that probably never happened, one that inaugurated an observatory that still hadn't been built, and one that raised significant money for Civil War medical aid.

As some of you may know, I help document national historical markers in #Wikidata and #WikimediaCommons. And today's photo haul is from the town of Santa Maria in the province of Bulacan, which I visited because that's where the annual grand-maternal family reunion was held.

In 1886, Albany, NY placed a series of #historicalmarkers around the city, denoting important places and people in its #history. I've been slowly telling the stories of those markers. Today's story covers a still extant marker that commemorates the city's old city hall, its first mayor Pieter Schuyler, its southeast gate, and the Congress of 1754, where #BenjaminFranklin offered the Albany Plan of Union.
