#SWRKultur #SWRKulturGespräch #Bauernkrieg #Histodon #Landschaft #historischeGeographie #historicalgeography

  6. I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify some places named in an #Armenian text, the history of Ghevond.

The text describes a raid by the Arab governor of Armenia (based at Duin) toward Pontus, passing Karin/Theodosioupolis/Erzerum and Kolonia (identified) as well as Govat'a, Kastiłon/Kastighon, and the district of Marit‘enēs (unidentified), listed in that order (perhaps a clue as to location?). I've tried playing with Pleiades but I'm not finding likely candidates.

This magisterial survey of the historical geography of the West Indies is at bottom concerned with the causes and consequences of three complex and inter-related phenomena: the rapid and total removal of a large aboriginal population; the development of plantation agriculture and the arrival of enforced labour, in the form of many thousands of African slaves; and the environmental, ecological and cultural changes that resulted.

  16. My script for #AncientWoodland (emphasis on Welsh cases) based on local surveys 2014 to 2019. One of my conclusions was that landscape often classed as Welsh Ancient Woodland was often post-industrial woodland or land severely damaged by coal mining even though the coal mining or iron activities may have ended in the seventeenth century or earlier enabling the current recovered woodland to present as Ancient. #HistoricalGeography #IndustrialArchaeology #LandscapeHistory #PostIndustrialWoodland

  17. @Nyddfwch I too love that book. Here are two related images that I have used to help first-year students imagine life during a time in which, if you wanted something done, you had to do it yourself (ie, no machines). Food = fuel.

You will know (but for the benefit of others), these men are all raising water from their flooded mines.

PS Pls post info about your tree work. Thank you.

  18. Hello World.
I've enjoyed membership on #SDF, the "Super Dimensional Fortress," since 2011.

I'd like to connect with people doing #ArchivalResearch (or better yet, those seeking it).

Are there others also trained in #HistoricalGeography ?
