  1. @troed

    So here we go again

Some bright-eyed young coder bro is back indexing every post that shows up in his Home feed:

"When your Mastodon Home feed loads new toots, the extension detects that the page content has changed and re-indexes the tab. This means every toot that appears in your browser gets added to your local index automatically."

What if I don't want to be "found" simply because I use a generic hashtag our bright-eyed young coder bro is indexing on a page that uses that hashtag, who I don't Foilow, and who I would otherwise be unknown to?

    Famous last story, again

    How do I #OptOut

    Who do I #Block?

Y'all never seem to understand that not everyone --> wants <-- to be found by some complete stranger

Or do I need to go on #Github and open an Issue?

    #Hister

  2. Créer son propre moteur de recherche, avec une extension pour firefox et chrome pour l'indexation, le tout tourne en local (docker)

  3. For the #selfhosted / #homelab people running #Hister (github.com/asciimoo/hister): you should update to version v0.4.0 ASAP. I reported a vulnerability in the previous version that allows any website to download your entire database due to missing CORS enforcement. The author responded very quickly to the disclosure and had a new release ready within a few hours, excellent work on his part.

Sadly, Hister is currently not packaged and does not auto-update, so people will have to manually download a new release, or be vulnerable.

CC @shollyethan, since he included it as a spotlight in this week's newsletter.
