That would have been the first crater to be closely examined by #Perseverance, but apparently it wasn't meant to be. Before even the digital ink in which my post was writen was dry, the rover moved once again, and is now past that little crater.

One thing is certain, the Sunderland East End skyline is going to change dramatically when the Lambton, Londonderry and Lumley Towers are finally demolished.
It was last year that the announcement was made by Gentoo that the three blocks of flats would be bulldozed with repair costs of more than £15m needed for each block.
Hi-rise living is perhaps not everybody's preferred choice, but I bet those living on the higher floors enjoy some cracking views looking out across the riverside and watching the big vessels coming and going into the Port of Sunderland.

Analysis of images acquired by the #HiRISE camera on the #Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, combined with the use of altimetry data, enabled a visual language model to plan the #route of the Perseverance rover. After verification, the commands were transmitted to Mars. For the very first time in its history, Perseverance followed a trajectory designed by #AI! 👏

No, they are not Hamas, nor are they terrorists, communists or Chinese spies.
They are researchers at the University of Arizona (UA) who just achieved a breakthrough in electronics: a petahertz (giga=10⁹, tera=10¹², peta=10¹⁵) phototransistor in ambient conditions.
This is the same UA that brings us the #HiRISE imagery used in detailed Mars maps.

After a very long stay at Pine Pond #Perseverance has now moved further down hill, apparently reaching the bottom of the Witch Hazel Hill area, where it has spent the last 120 sols examining rocks.
The path shown is a guess. Elevations are from the Octavia E. Butler landing location.
The map was made in #QGIS, using #NASA's #MMGIS and #HiRISE and #USGS imagery and DTMs.

[Focus sur #HiRISE] Installé depuis près de deux ans sur le Very Large Telescope (#VLT) de l' @esoastronomy (European Southern Observatory), l'instrument HiRISE vient de caractériser, avec une précision inégalée, la jeune #exoplanète AF Lep b. La mesure directe de la lumière émise a permis de déterminer la composition de son #atmosphere ainsi que la vitesse à laquelle elle décrit son orbite autour de son étoile hôte. Il est ainsi apparu que cette exoplanète était similaire à #Jupiter dans notre Système Solaire.
AF Lep b n’est que la première cible du relevé HiRISE commencé en 2023. D’ici quelques années, toutes les planètes géantes connues en imagerie auront été observées avec HiRISE, ce qui permettra de tester de manière statistique les liens entre composition, vitesse de rotation et mode de formation. #Ingenuity amazed everyone in late April 2022, when it flew around and captured images of the parachute and backshell that brought #Perseverance and itself to #Mars.
Here, the parachute is seen from orbit through the eyes of #HiRISE, an instrument onboard #NASA's #MRO, launched back in 2005.
The animation spreads over 12 months but lasts only 3 seconds, so the parachute appears flapping.

#PPOD: Absolutely amazing #HiRISE image of #Mars. Polygons form in nature for many different reasons. In this case, it's due to intersecting dune ridges! If this deposit were to become indurated and eroded, we might not be able, from orbit, to tell that they originated as wind-blown dunes and interpret the polygons as evidence for a dried-up lake, for example. Now, if you call this part of *western* Jezero Crater 'northern', then it follows that there will also be a *southern* rim campaign in the future 😎
