¿Sabían que el juego de peleas mitológicas Hippodrome, lanzado por Data East en 1989 para las salas de arcade, implementó un sistema muy inusual para la época que permitía a los jugadores comprar armas y mejoras de salud en una tienda entre combates?
A diferencia de la mayoría de los títulos de pelea uno contra uno de finales de la década de 1980, donde el avance por el torneo dependía únicamente de la habilidad con los botones, este cartucho combinó elementos de rol con combates de gladiadores en 2D. Tras elegir a uno de los dos guerreros disponibles, llamados Michael o Snake, los usuarios debían enfrentar a ocho feroces bestias de fantasía como un hombre escorpión, un lagarto con escudo, un mago y un temible dragón rojo. Cada victoria en la arena recompensaba al jugador con bolsas de oro, las cuales se gastaban de inmediato en un mercado ambulante para adquirir espadas con mayor rango de golpe, hachas de gran poder destructivo o pociones mágicas para rellenar de forma permanente la barra azul de salud, un recurso indispensable para sobrevivir en los escenarios avanzados.
El diseño visual de los personajes humanos y de los adversarios de la máquina recibió una fuerte influencia estética de los trajes y las complejas armaduras del manga Hokuto no Ken, conocido en Occidente como Fist of the North Star, dándole un aspecto crudo y detallado a los guerreros. Al ser distribuido en el mercado internacional, el juego adoptó el nombre de Hippodrome en las cabinas americanas, mientras que en los muebles de Japón se le conoció formalmente como Fighting Fantasy. Un detalle muy llamativo en el sistema permitía que un segundo jugador se uniera a la partida en cualquier momento para retar al jugador actual a un duelo a muerte en medio de la arena, con la peculiaridad de que solo el gladiador vencedor obtenía el derecho de conservar el oro acumulado y continuar con el torneo para gobernar el reino.

Time is on the fuzzy side in the setting of The Dream. My wip Sanguine Dreams intermeshes with the existing story Hippodrome, which has a vague timeline of when events take place.
Sanguine Dreams starts with that vague timeline sequence, and peels into a bit more defined timeline (characters making specific remarks on passages of time) as it departs from the fallout of Hippodrome's events.Currently I need to figure out how long it takes a Jinrō to change from human to a wolf-person. Or at least how long it takes Klein to complete the transition. I'll bet a bacon grilled cheese that @GrayWolf57 never thought some weirdo dweeb would be getting into the particulars of what were supposed to just be common mooks 😆

This place in Springfield, MA was a vaudeville theater in the 20s, then turned into a movie theater, and then turned into a concert venue/dance club. It is now shuttered, awaiting renovation as a performance space. It needs to be fixed up and used.
