I watched #TheTajStory yesterday, and I agree with every word the reviewer said.
The story had great potential as long as it was purely fictional with fictional location and fictional monuments.
But by attacking the #TajMahal and its history on flimsy lines and without credible evidence, they're just spreading propaganda for the #RightWing #Hindutva #Hindutwa movement of the #BJP.
One of the books cited was conspiracy-theory-addled #AlternateHistory of Taj Mahal.
What a shame!

A nation is ultimately sustained by the moral agency and free conscience of its people. Any political ideology that suppresses conscience in pursuit of its own supremacy undermines the very society it claims to defend. Such an ideology may call itself nationalist, but by weakening the nation's people, institutions, and social trust, it acts against the nation's long-term interests.

I replied:
Vikasit Bharat is built on love and compassion and NOT merely on technology is what I am saying. Economic growth and development is NOT only materialistic – look up Gross National Happiness (GNH) concept. How can there be happiness all around, including in oneself, solely on the basis of technology if there is no love and compassion towards oneself and others? You saw a political angle in my philosophical and spiritual comment. Think, Nair, think. India is all about spirituality, and there can be no spirituality without love and compassion. Even Sri Aurobindo pointed this out saying among the comity of nations in this world, the most unique thing that India can give, and has a responsibility to give, to the world is its spirituality, hence the concept of Vishwa Guru, etc.

The taste for "#Hindutva-flavored entertainment" is an effect of the #BJP's and the majoritaian right's success in poisoning the "cultural discourse". I don't know if/how much the regional film industries taking away #Bollywood's marketshare have a similar flavor. In case you thought vilifying immigrants and religious minorities was strictly a Western phenomenon, Indian PM Narendra Modi used his Independence Day Speech a couple of weeks ago to announce a "high-powered demography mission" because, "when demographic change takes place - especially in border regions - it creates a threat to national security." He was specifically targeting Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants, most of whom are Muslim.
That said, I'm hardly any kind of expert on Hindutva generally or any of the parties that advocate for it specifically. It's been on my radar for years, but I've never really found a point of entry for reading up on it. If there's a book or two that folks could recommend, I'd be grateful to hear it.

“Today, I wish to warn the nation of a grave concern and challenge,” said Narendra Modi. “As part of a deliberate conspiracy, the demography of the country is being altered. Seeds of a new crisis are being sown. These infiltrators are snatching away the livelihoods of our youth. These infiltrators are targeting our sisters and daughters. This will not be tolerated.” And so on.
Modi offered no details on how the mission would work. But trace the arc from past events to unfolding developments, add in the disparate actions already underway against suspected “infiltrators” and a clearer, if unsettling, picture emerges.
