After recording his GREAT 1987 album Sentimental Hygiene, Warren Zevon and three members of R.E.M. had a little fun in the studio, and recorded a bunch of scorching hot #blues covers.

They tackle killer songs by Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Woody Guthrie, and others.

The REAL gem here is the cover of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret”, which is just astonishing. It’s something I’ve found myself listening to more than the original these last few years. It’s so good.

A bit of a hard-to-come-by record this is, so if you come across it, grab it. It’s worth every single penny, I promise. This is one of those records you gotta hear on vinyl. It sounds unbelievable.

Kind of bittersweet ending to the story, as Zevon and R.E.M. kind of had a falling out due to the album’s release.

In 1990 Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe, Warren Zevon and Bryan Cook were members of a supergroup called The Hindu Love Gods. They released one self-titled album.
