  1. Researchers: should we separate our primary #authorship and #citations from consortia counterparts?

If I add little to a paper (e.g., a little analysis, data, editing), I feel odd letting it count toward MY #publications or MY #hIndex.

    Just me?

  2. News from the @DORAssessment page:

Brief report about a project aimed to test the effectiveness of multimedia formats for educating researchers about scholarly metrics

The team used multiple strategies to develop content and format of the videos. I found it an interesting brief read for the planning of educational resources.

GitHub Trend Analyzer

  4. An entertaining, informative and overall really well done video about the h-index and why you shouldn't use it, by @stefhaustein, @carey_mlchen et al.

I really will be sharing this video a lot: "What is the h-index and what are its limitations? Or: Stop using the h-index"

  5. So this weekend was another first for me 🥇. Someone I have never met sent me a message on #researchgate, which I'm happy about because I too use researchgate to contact people 💬. Usually asking specific questions about papers.
However, this person added two articles to the message and kindly asked me to include one of them in one of my future publications.

    Is this common?

  7. My new publication in #Scientometrics about university rankings. If you self-cite your papers too much, a hump will form in the visualization of your h-index. Does the presence of a hump necessarily indicate #manipulation? – Not necessarily, but it is an interesting anomaly in the #citation data:

  8. #hindex #publishorperish #metrics

While I was brushing my teeth earlier, I was thinking about this.

We all know that academic metrics are a problem. As soon as a system is given the goal of maximizing a real number, the capitalist mentality kicks in and turns the system into a hellish machine.

Instead, why don't we create a reputation-based system in academia?

    (Follows in the replies.)

  9. Hirsch index for scientists is like GDP for economy. If it doesn’t continuously grow, your research is considered to have stagnated.
