  1. How it started vs how it’s going. When I got the ping from #Strava that I was sixth on this random segment, I thought it should be possible to steal the crown.
Then I saw that it’s being held by nobody else than #ChrigelMaurer himself. The default, assumed winner of each year of #RedBullXAlps, so … 🫠

  2. Le p'tit réveil qui va bien pour faire une rando-vol avant le taff.
    Ça faisait bien longtemps.

  3. It's October, the trees are turning yellow, and the "high inversion fog" season has started. Time for a hike&fly!

We started from Älplibahn Malans, with the destination Falknisspitz. Here's the panorama with the Glegghorn on the left, Falknis in the middle (below the moon) and Vorder Grauspitz on the right.

  4. Heute spontan wiedermal ein kleines Hike&Fly auf die Alp Scheidegg gemacht... Hat sich trotz kurzem Flug definitiv gelohnt!

  5. The #TrailFlyLenk day 1 was a great experience: Great organization, great hiking, great flying.

I couldn't quite keep up with @flub, but still finished all 5 turnpoints in the "fun" category (easier route and some cable cars are allowed). Thanks to good flying conditions, my total elevation gain by foot was only 1100m.

  6. @Snoweider Thank you Lucy, let me join the bandwagon for #tagafriendtuesday 😀.

Let me start with the one and only Fediverse friend I ever met IRL @albert. Together we hiked up the Dreispitz for a sunrise over Bernese Oberland. He is a versatile species doing a lot of stuff in the #outdoors.

There might be a meet & greet in the future with @recollir from #Sweden who is #trailrunning all over the place like he is possessed. Switzerland might be on the agenda. 🙏

Closer at home we have @rcr who shares lovely pictures from slightly further away from the high mountains, giving a glorious view over them. Active on the #Bike and #running

If you like #HikeAndFly and #Mountaineering, be sure to follow @dbrgn, who surprises every time with stunning pictures from high above.

To finish of, for #Hiking in high temperatures and #Skijoring in the very lows with #Huskies, follow @Paws2Trail.

    All highly recommended.

  7. Morning #HikeAndFly with views over the #Alps of #Jungfrau region. The city of #Interlaken is visible down below and a yellow #Hangglider is at the takeoff doing beautiful takeoff. Another scene is from the landing at the #Höhematte where 10+ #paragliders are up in the sky and one is just landing next to the camera.

  8. Summary from Alpstein Crossing 2023 (alpstein-crossing.ch/):

    - 30 teams (90 participants) from 4 countries
    - 2275 total kilometers distance by foot (25.3 per participant)
    - 163'104 total vertical meters (up and down)

    Personal stats:

    - 33 km distance
    - 2068 vertical meters
    - 4 turnpoints

Due to strong Föhn wind, we could not do _any_ flight 🙈 So essentially it was a trailrun race, not a hike&fly race. It was fun nevertheless!

  9. Along the route, we chose checkpoints where we need a certain altitude to safely continue flying towards Villadossola. Additionally, we memorized a few emergency landing spots based on satellite imagery and other maps that were in glide range along the route.

All 5 of us reached the official landing zone between Domodossola and Villadossola with a big smile! After eating gelato, we took the train back to Switzerland.

  10. And finally: A looong glide (plus two thermals) from the Weissmies peak (4017m) down to Domodossola (240m).

That flight took a bit of planning. The direct route over Passo di Pontimia would have been shorter, but the Valle di Bognanco looks pretty unlandable. So we took the slightly longer route via Passo d'Andolla and the Valle d'Antrona.
