  2. “Among faculty, the drive for unionization has been strongest among non-tenure track faculty... This reflects the massive restructuring of faculty, over the past decades, to largely precarious low-wage college teaching and researching positions”

  3. The bargaining team representing TAs, contract faculty, postdocs, and grounds/facilities workers at my institution reached a tentative agreement with the university last night at the 11th hour. Among other things, it includes solid salary increases and improved health care. All despite admin saying over and over they just couldn't afford to get anywhere near the unions' demands. Congrats! ✊

  4. "The agreement, which must be ratified by union members, includes higher salary floors for the lowest-paid workers, safer workplaces and an expansion of parental leave. In an email to faculty members, union leaders said the agreement includes a 5% salary increase retroactive to July 1, 2023, among other benefits."

  5. Hopefully UC faculty get inspired by CSU faculty. UC Faculty at most campuses were pretty limp when it came to supporting grad students, TAs, readers, and postdocs last year, so I don't think I'll be holding my breath.

  6. this week #UAW 5810 and 2865, the unions representing postdocs, academic researchers, and grad students for all UC Universities voted 92% yes to amalgamate into one big union.

Faculty: you're next. Lets make a wall to wall UC and shake the heavens

  7. The proposed cuts at West VA university are horrifying, esp the elimination of the entire foreign language program. The lack of organized, concerted outrage and pushback from media, politicians, professional organizations, and faculty at other institutions as this happens over and over is depressing. #academia #HigherEdWorkersUnite

  8. We urge Temple University not to violate what has been an established set of norms regarding collective bargaining with graduate student employees and to return to the bargaining table.

  9. "As faculty with disabilities who have an investment in mentoring and advocacy for disabled students, we invite the university community to understand that relative to the campus mandate to provide accessible, equitable education compliant with federal and state civil rights requirements, the loss of our teaching assistants was akin to pouring gasoline on a fire."

UC Access Now recommends voting NO on the Tentative Agreement and continuing to fight for the original Access Needs article and so much more.

  11. This is the university who insisted the Access Needs article get made over into "Reasonable Accommodations" where abled ppl decide what's reasonable.

32 years post-ADA, and > 2yrs post-Demandifesto, this image is lacking image description for accessibility.

This isn't ignorance. This is not caring about disabled members of the public. This is systemic ableism.

VOTE NO on the TA. We can fight for a better contract!

  12. Why are folks talking about the UC UAW strike, but referencing Columbia?

Because Columbia workers voted NO on a bad contract and kept striking until university admins coughed up what workers deserve. Columbia workers are having open office hrs so you can ask them how! bit.ly/askcolumbiastem
