  1. My new 2026 subscription, the mighty High Country News. Longtime rss lurker but I'm happier to support in depth longform intermountain journalism and have it in print around the house.

The first issue featuring Portland's Albina music history is a tad on the nose, has me all squared up.

  5. @heidilifeldman #DemocracyDocket and #HighCountryNews both look interesting - thanks!

I try to tune out the noise that these revolutionary rulers are producing by reading about the USA only on one day every week. This new reality is difficult enough to digest, and I can't handle that more often without losing hope (which is what they want to achieve).

My assumption is this propaganda shock-wave won't last forever, just like propaganda took a break for a few short years after the 1st WW.

  6. whenever a new issue of #highcountrynews appears, i spend a minute gazing at the consistently beautiful cover then look to see if @Toastie has a piece. there are other, excellent contributors to high country news, but me and Toastie interacted once on the mastodon so i feel like we are pals i am happy to see their work in print

  7. Engineering potato chip flavors. Cannabis and teens. Not-so-jolly holly. This week's newsletter highlights some of our favorite pieces from #TheGuardian, #Nature and #HighCountryNews, along with some intergalactic stereography. Check it out: us10.campaign-archive.com/?u=0

  10. “For decades, black walnut [trees] were essentially protected from development because they tend to grow on steep hillsides. But in recent years, as LA housing values have soared, it’s become profitable to develop even those accidental refuges. Now, Coyotl + Macehualli is using the tree’s protections to simultaneously achieve several goals: limiting gentrification, fighting extreme heat & deepening the community’s relationship to its ecosystem.” (#HighCountryNews)
