🐌 There was evidence of animal populations despite being an urban creek. Mussel shells and snails were abundant.
After about 30 minutes, I found what I was looking for. It was not doing so well. Maybe it had been a victim of people playing in the creek the previous day.
🦞 This is the Nashville Crayfish. Notice the long claws with orange tips with a black band. Also the "saddle" coloration on the carapace helps with identification.
🛶 We have River Keepers, but we need more Stream Keepers, people watching out for the creeks near their homes.
🔬 There are citizen science opportunities for young people, and habitats and rare populations to protect.
