@rebane2001 imho the BEST would be a to come up with a super cheap way to archive massive amounts of data, the 2nd best is build a 1PByte storage server with crazy amounts of second hard #hgst disks

Since my old #HGST 6TB Deskstar #7200 rpm #NAS drives are dying.
I’m going to upgrade them to #Seagate 24TB #IronWolf pro 7200 rpm NAS HDDs. (#CMR , 512MB Cache, 550TB Endurance, 2.5 million hours MTBF)
So excited to see them in a #ZFS #raidz3 (wondering how long would they last 🙄)

I had a great experience with HGST, the drives continued to work for 9+ years with only 2 failing drives in the past year out of 14 drives.
6TB to 24TB. is a major upgrade 😁

Looking for a new #HardDrive, wondering if anyone might be able to toss me some #hardware advice.

I have an #HGST #Travelstar Z5K (#HTS541010B7E610) 1TB #SATA 2.5" #HDD that #MSI shipped with this #GL62M7REX #laptop #computer. It's 5400 RPM, 128MB Buffer Size, 130MB/s Internal Transfer Rate.

It's one of the few things I haven't upgraded, and it's getting a little full now, and I know I can get something bigger and faster for relatively cheap. (My budget is under $100)

I'm looking for at least 2TB, and anything that'll give me better speeds. I know there's an adapter in there, so there might be something like an SSD port, but I'd be happy with anything that's bigger and faster.

The other drive is an SSD, with my Windows and Linux partitions, and it's only 500GB, and was relatively good when I got it, so I'm happy enough with it: I just need a bigger Data drive.

I know a lot of people post about Hardware on here, so does anyone here have any advice?

可以看到一開始是 HGST 最低，後來變成 WDC 比較低。(因為 WDC 把 HGST 的很多產品線都改到 WDC 的企業級品牌下了)

#Disk failure rates in #datacenters are falling, says #Backblaze
AFR for Q1 2024 was 1.41%. That’s down from Q4 2023 at 1.53%, and also down from one year ago (Q1 2023) at 1.54%.

Winning! I just found a pile of 6tb #HGST SATA drives that look almost new. I have no recollection of buying them, but as I need a bunch of reliable disks to act as boot drives for some new Proxmox hosts, they're PERFECT! Let's see what smartctl has to say about their ACTUAL age once I get the installer booted!

Those #Hitachi #HGST #HDDs just keep on kickin'...
