Saturday night I had a bit of time to play through the third First Light quest in HeroQuest. This time I played with only the standees for the monsters, aside from a dragon that appeared. The standees aren't bad, but I do like miniatures a bit more.
My heroes made it out by the skin of their teeth but scrounged up enough gold to get Cloudcry, the barbarian, a helmet to protect his head in the next adventure.

Today I played the second quest of HeroQuest: First Light, taking turns between laundry tasks.
Cloudcry the barbarian, Echostone the dwarf, Melody the elf, and Harmony the wizard had their first adventure on the reverse map that features underground chambers. Portals throughout the dungeon kept things interesting and made traversal easier once all locations were explored. They also battled a dragon for the first time and barely survived.
Having fresh HQ experiences has been fun.

Between chores today, I finally sat down to play HeroQuest. I bought the First Light version of the base game a while back so that I could have the smaller board and retire the old, tattered one from my childhood. I used the app to play it solo and enjoyed the thrill of a new adventure.
My heroes survived and the elf was able to upgrade her sword. Hopefully Cloudcry the barbarian, Echostone the dwarf, Melody the elf, and Harmony the wizard will be off on adventure again before long.

After watching his Fighting Fantasy history video, I looked through Jordan Sorcery's other videos and found that he also did one on HeroQuest. It's a snappy look at the phenomenon of the game and how it was created.

Sunday afternoon Celestine asked to play a game and we settled on HeroQuest. We started off on the back foot with just a dwarf and an elf tackling The Trial, but Tonet eventually joined as a barbarian. It was Celestine's second time playing my childhood favorite game, and I'm not sure she has been won over yet.

Last night I finally found time to play a game I hadn't played in 35 years and it was a blast.
The updated release really is a labour of love, with lovely details and largely improved NA rules, which are a bit more refined than the original EU rules.
I confess I didn't miss some of the Games Workshop models but the set is very nice.
