#hermaphrodites — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #hermaphrodites, aggregated by home.social.

  1. They have a bizarre and somewhat brutal biological quirk. Because their anatomy is so large, they occasionally get "stuck" during mating. When this happens, one slug will actually chew off the other's phallus to separate. This is called apophallation. The "victim" then lives the rest of its life as a female (they are #hermaphrodites).

  2. Looking forward to #Behaviour2023 in Bielefeld DE). As invited speaker for the symposium Socially Transferred Materials (organised by @SanjaHakala and @Adria) I will cover #snails #allohormones #hermaphrodites #SeminalFluidProteins #lovedarts and more. If you are interested and attending the meeting, come find me afterwards (Symposium R)

  3. Here is a 17 sec impression of my two-week visiting professorship at #LEEC, Université #Sorbonne #Paris Nord (hosted by Cristina Lorenzi). What you do not see is my #socialtransfers seminar, discussions with PhDs/researchers about experiments, collaborative grants and manuscripts and the cool #hermaphrodites they work on #Ophryotrocha. All-in-all a welcome change of pace and scenery (despite riots and public transport and garbage-pickup strikes).
