  5. Browning and Reginald Clery lost their lives when they marched into the Easter Rising, shot by rebel snipers near Lansdowne Road rugby ground. The rebels (Irish Volunteers 3rd Battalion Dublin Brigade) were commanded by rugby enthusiast Eamon de Valera. 2/4

  6. In August 1914 IRFU President Francis Henry Browning formed the IRFU Volunteer Corps. The corps served with D Company, 7th Royal Dublin Fusiliers, sent to Gallipoli with the 10th Irish Division, and a group of older men served as a home defence corps. 1/4

  9. Kildare County Council are facilitating guided tours of 15 acres of woodland garden adjacent to the De Burgh estate in Oldtown with Seamie Moore and local historian Liam Kenny as part of Heritage Week.

    These lands are normally closed to the public for safety reasons but have huge potential as a public amenity adjacent to the Naas canal walk.

    Nice way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday!
