Amazing look at the #chester camera obscura courtesy of #HeritageOpenDays this weekend

I've been at The Firs, Elgar's birth place. As well as hearing Nimrod played on a 1927 wind-up gramophone (see @donty's post if you want to hear it) I learnt a lot about Elgar as a man and a polymath, and as the first composer to take the gramophone seriously. The odds were stacked against him but now he's a national treasure. My friend's great-grandfather played in an orchestra with him at Worcester Cathedral. Today I visited the 'Revive & Thrive' expo at the restored former Wheatsheaf Inn at High Wycombe, Bucks, SE England.

For decades I've longed to see inside, beyond the two tiny shops which used to be on the ground (first) floor.

Well impressed 😁

Join our volunteer and local expert for an early-evening urban guided walk exploring part of Victorian Old Town, visiting some of the places associated with, or familiar to Jefferies before he moved out of Wiltshire. We will visit the Lawns, the original Market Square, and a take circuit of nearby streets.

We had some vintage #buses in town for our #HeritageOpenDays event in #Dewsbury Town centre today. It made so many people happy to see them again.

This one is from the 1950s and ran out of #Wakefield.
