  1. "Hawke’s Bay police say they are using thermal binoculars and drones to track down illegal hunters."

Well that doesn't remind me of Sleeping Dogs at all.

Especially considering that these "illegal hunters" are most likely people struggling to feed their families in a climate of politically planned impoverishment. So this is yet another example of criminalising people for being poor.

  2. @thebrilliant The second article is about Waiaroha - a one-of-a-kind project that combines an advanced water-treatment plant with a community & education centre, a celebration of native flora, and a showcase for Māori art & stories. An incredible response to a tragic water crisis #Heretaunga #hastings #science #scicomm thebrilliant.com/case-studies/

  3. Resharing my latest article, which is all about a place here in Aotearoa #NewZealand that aims to reshape people's relationship with their water. It's extremely impressive thebrilliant.com/case-studies/

  4. Eeee.... I'm so excited to share this article. I interviewed members of the team behind Waiaroha in #Heretaunga Hastings; an advanced water-treatment centre, community hub, discovery centre, and celebration of Māori culture (specifically, Ngāti Kahungunu, who co-designed the whole thing). This is a phenomenal project, unlike anything I've seen before.

  5. "At the end of March 2022 - when the Ministry of Social Development began regularly reporting these numbers - 285 people in 117 Hastings households were living in emergency accommodation.

At the end of September 2023, that was down to 66 people in 39 households - a 77 percent drop.

Officials put the success down to the district's place-based housing strategy, which was introduced as a pilot in 2019."
