  1. This morning’s little tea flower harvest. I’ve looked up the benefits of these plants numerous times and can never remember exactly what they are because they’re all so similar. Antioxidant rich, anti-cancer, good for skin, anti-inflammatory, etc. Butterfly pea and globe amaranth (or gomphrena) flowers. These aren’t teas I drink daily, just seasonally/occasionally. Mostly I’m just inspired by the colors and the nutrition is an added bonus to a lovely tea ritual. #HerbalTea #plants #gardening

  3. When the weather is cold enough that I just want hot drinks all day then I get out the herbal teas.

    This Winter I have gone through the last of my home grown tea herbs and now I wish I was still growing lavender and camomile. I had a 'tea garden' area going but it was not a very good set-up and it didn't last. I had lavender, camomile, and lemon verbena (the verbena is still hanging in there but not doing great).

    Notes for a new tea garden:

    Things that have worked before:
    * lavender (English)
    * camomile (German)
    * lemon verbena (grow more from cuttings)
    * peppermint

    Other ideas:
    * find out what type of roses are good for rose hips
    * lemongrass (can grow as an annual in our climate)
    * can I grow some ginger in pot perhaps?
    * lemon thyme might be good in tea?
    * dried lemon peel from our lemon tree?

    Ideas based on my tastes in tea - I like tart/citrus notes and not everyone likes lavender in tea but I think it's very nice with camomile.

    I do also have a hearty perennial lemon balm growing in my herb garden - In my experience fresh leaves make good tea but dried leaves loose flavor quickly.

  4. Lemon verbena for the nerves a heat dome frayed.

    A teaspoon of dried leaf, or a small handful fresh, steeped five minutes with a lid on so the oils don't escape. Bright and candied, no caffeine, easy on a churning stomach. The French call it verveine.

  6. Seamrag dhearg — red clover, up in every untended verge right now, mid-June, throwing soft globes out of the grass. twp.ai/4hrZsz

    A small handful of the dried heads in a mug, boiling water, capped ten minutes until it blushes rose-gold. A blood-cleanser, a steadier for the change-of-life years. Honey and hay on the tongue.

  7. Grow lemon balm in a cracked mug of soil on any sill that catches light. Pinch the leaves fresh, steep five minutes in hot water. A tea that costs the price of a single seed packet. There's a particular light in a kitchen where someone has decided their own jangled nerves are worth a homegrown cup. The steam rises.

    It's that time again when flowers are springing up all around and insects are emerging. Every year, I wonder how many more Springs I will see. Morbid thought, but it sure makes me appreciate whatever Spring I'm having.
