An art gallery has successfully secured sufficient funds to buy a Dame Barbara #Hepworth sculpture after reaching the target of £3.8m. Sculpture With Colour (Oval Form) Pale Blue And Red will go on a permanent public display at the Hepworth Wakefield after pre-empting its 27 August deadline to raise the funds.15
Else, it would have gone into private hands, never more to be seen!

Good news, but small. Some of Barbara Hepworth's sculptures are on a two-stop excursion to France and Germany. Now until early November in Vence; late November to March 2026 in Munster.
Allegedly, only 2 museums in France actually own any of her sculptures.

At the current Hurvin Anderson exhibition at #Hepworth Museum #Wakefield, the artist has curated a room with works that were particularly influential on him.... included is this wonderful 1979 piece (from #TateBritain) by Michael Andrews; Melanie & me swimming.
It was one of he first works I really remember being struck by (alongside a piece by Patrick Caulfield) when I was a young non-nothing gallery visitor in my early 20s.

Really looking forward to going over (next week) to the #Hepworth Gallery in #Wakefield for the just opened #HurvinAnderson Salon paintings exhibition... here's one of the paintings we'll be seeing - what I don't understand is why he isn't better known outside the #artworld 'village'....

Another huge piece. The photo does not do it justice! It made me breathless. It's called prayer mat, and is about 5m high

The large panelled works are made of coloured silk wrapped up and down
The piece hanging in the center is corn husks woven together.

The Hicks work is all fabric based.. woven silk I loved the way the threads joined an seperated and re-merged

The Sheila Hicks exhibition is huge. The scale of it really overwhelmed me. When I entered I saw this. It took me a long time to enter the room and even then I felt like I had to walk around the edge and could not go into the center

The #Hepworth is a modern building on the banks of the river Calder in Wakefield. There were several exhibitions on at the time.

- Some assorted modern sculpture..It was all fabulous
