Hazardous Air Quality - “Everyone should stay indoors and reduce activity levels.”

The DC region has blown past the expected Code Red Air Quality warning for Friday, July 18. It was only red for about an hour before moving to the purple “Very Unhealthy” for everyone range. Now, it’s mostly in the maroon “Hazardous” for everyone range, which is the highest this scale goes up to. This is due to wildfire smoke from Canada. Good thing rain is in the forecast for tomorrow.

If you have an N95 mask, such as the 3M Aura (which fits about 80% of adults), it is a very good idea to wear it. Under these conditions, a half piece respirator is better if you have one and need to go outdoors. Most hardware stores should have them in stock if you don’t have one on hand.

Remember that smoke rises, so stay on the lowest floor while indoors if you can. The PM levels for my upstairs rooms are much higher than my lower ones. You can seal leaky windows with painters tape and plastic sheeting to create a “safe room” with HEPA air purifiers or make a CR Box (I reposted a tutorial yesterday).

Folks interested in buying #HEPA air filters: stay the hell away from #RabbitAir products!

I went to go purchase replacement filters for a RabbitAir 3, and apparently they put a stop on my order because my girlfriend received a RabbitAir MinusA2 filter kit from them (that we can't use and that she didn't order!!!). Apparently they want us to pay shipping to return it, or we can't order new filters!

Fuck this to high hell and back. I have no interest in working with a company that can "send me the wrong item" and then try to hold future maintenance of the product hostage if I don't choose to mail it back to them on my dime.

Why isn't our government mandating (& providing funding for) improved ventilation in public buildings? Study showed with 2.4 changes of the air per hour, cases dropped by 40%. With 4 changes of air every hour, infections dropped by 66.7%; when replacing the air 6 times each hour, infections go down by 82.5%! We need this in theatres, restaurants, schools...

4. #Enovid #NONS nasal spray
5. #CPC mouthwash
6. #SipMask

I’ll only eat outdoors, weather permitting; otherwise I’ll find a private room & run the purifier before unmasking. I will use #NasalSpray several times per day.

My indoor #PM25 reading is FINALLY as low as is measurable by the #AirPurifier!

At some points yesterday, it was up to 35 ppm even with all windows closed, air conditioners off/sealed, exhaust fans off, etc.

My brother flew home (NY) from college (Chicago) early the week of Christmas—2 planes, 3 airports, brief layover. #Novavax x2, 3M Aura #N95, no eating/drinking for the ~6 hour trip.

Family masked around him constantly once at home; all #KN95 or better. 2 Germ Guardian #HEPA w #FarUVC in common areas. Tiny #HEPA in bathroom.

Brother got several neg #RAT, despite dry nose/throat a couple days in. Got #PCR on morning of 12/25, 140 hrs post arrival. Negative!
