Having easily got #meshcore working on #HeltecV3, I'm having ALL sorts of issues trying to get #meshtastic working on my two devices. I can't connect to either via #Bluetooth (connects then drops) but I have managed to get one of them to connect via WiFi so I can power it it up independently of phone/computer. 2nd device is stubbornly refusing to connect to my WiFi :-(

How did I miss the existence of MeshCore for so long? 😇
Looking forward to playing with this. Heltec v3 looks like an easy starter for it. The v4 may have excess power limit issues, but looks good for a go-bag. (If things have got bad enough that this is your main comms, who cares about power issues?)
Planning two devices. First as a BT5 connect to get it running with a phone. Second as a repeater to extend the coverage.

Like I mentioned, I don't know a lot about #MeshNetworks, but I'd love to know what others think of the #MeshTastic systems. This seems to be a pretty up-to-date guide on how to set up a Mesh network (there wasn't a date on the piece, but they referenced QR codes). Personally, I'd rather go the #HamRadio route, but there's a few hoops to jump through for that (like the Ham radio test and licensing).

I have a #heltecv3 with the stable #meshtastic firmware and the device restarts several times before running stable (it just restarts without 'shutting down'). I reflashed the firmware and checked all connections (battery and antenna) is this behaviour known/normal?

I just set up a Heltec V3. Partly I think Meshtastic could be useful for occasions when I'm hanging around with groups of friends but nowhere near a phone mast. Partly I'm curious to climb some local hills and see who else is using the mesh network. But is there anything else that you can do with just the basic board and its teeny antenna? How likely am I to find people actually "online" if I head into a city and try sending a message? #Meshtastic #HeltecV3

Just in case you're trying to flash a #heltecv3 for #amateurradio #lora #meshcom like I do at the moment and use #linux like I do, here's the command for flashing the files that can be downloaded from https://icssw.org/heltec-v3-anleitung/ :
esptool.py write_flash 0x0 bootloader.bin 0xe000 boot_app0.bin 0x8000 partitions.bin 0x10000 firmware-mc-heltec-v3-4.34a.bin
It took me a bit to figure it out... screen is still dark 🤔
