Chantilly Bridge, lifelong friendships
To understand Chantilly Bridge, you have to be old enough to remember 1993's Chantilly Lace and to appreciate the cast of older actresses telling this story of love and friendship. [β¦]https://oldaintdead.com/chantilly-bridge-lifelong-friendships/

40 years ago this week, "Invincible (Theme From The Legend Of Billie Jean)" by #PatBenatar entered the #Top10 and peaked at 10. The movie starred #HelenSlater and #ChristianSlater playing brother and sister, but they're not actually related. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4xBp2rizQ #1980s #MusicHistory #MusicVideo

Today marks 40 years since the release of 'The Legend of Billie Jean' starring Helen Slater as a no-nonsense badass. A film that is now considered a cult classic, tackling with the themes of teen rebellion, social justice, female empowerment, and standing up for what is right. It has a great cast that includes Yeardley Smith and Christian Slater, a seriously solid soundtrack, featuring the Divinyls, Billy Idol, Pat Benatar, and Wendy O. Williams, and all in all, it has aged impressively well. Definitely a movie worth watching.
Interestingly enough, it's also 41 years since the world premiere of 'Supergirl' in the UK, several months before it was released in the US. In many ways I wish this film was more like 'The Legend of Billie Jean' but with superpowers, and I know it's one of the movies that most consider "just bad", but also, its heart is in the right place, Helen Slater still shines as Kara, Jerry Goldsmith's score is a highlight, and it's campy, cheesy, messy fun that never takes itself too seriously. If I actually felt any guilt for the camp and cheese that I find enjoyable, I'd call it a personal guilty pleasure.

Today's whim rewatch was cult classic 'The Legend of Billie Jean', which remains pure, over-the-top fun. As a film it doesn't take itself too seriously, and this really works in the plot's favour. It's campy, exaggerated, and hell, empowering even. The soundtrack is solid 80s goodness, featuring the likes of Pat Benatar, Wendy O. Williams, the Divinyls, and Billy Idol.
Plus, Helen Slater is a total badass in this, really wish she'd had taken more similar roles, because she absolutely kills it as the no-nonsense, no-bs, assertive protagonist. 40 years later it definitely still holds, enough that I'm sure that someone, somewhere would probably be commenting on how woke it is, had it come out today.
