🚗 On the last day of our trip, we ate at one of my favorite places in Helen, the Cafe International. (The name should be interpreted the same way you interpret "International House of Pancakes.")
🌊 Its charm is that it's right on the Chattahoochee - and in the shade at lunchtime.
🍽️ They specialize in wursts, of course, something I don't eat anymore. But I was glad to see they had a vegan version! (@otterX may be watching me) And it was good!
😎 Beloved and I sat right at the edge so we could watch the tubers. After our float the day before, we were confidently able to give a color commentary on the errors often being made.

GOOD VIBRATIONS
🎢 Once the rain let up in Helen, it was time to try the coaster. We had low expectations for its intensity, and the track was hidden in the dense trees. We decided not to use the brakes.
But the climb up went on forever. At the top, I had to stow my phone quickly because I could see the beginning of a long, steep, twisty ride down.
😱 The cart was going so fast at one point, it started to shake hard. In a moment of panic, I thought of dangerous sympathetic vibrations from physics and applied the brakes briefly so as to live.
Afterwards, we rated it "Excellent".

Why meet in the mountains? I think this bag in a store window sums it up pretty well.

"You know what to do."
We met friends in Helen, GA. They brought their dogs. Jayde remembered me and my weakness. She is a manipulator.

🌲 In 1969, a north Georgia logging town in decline mandated a building design to mimic that in southern Germany in an effort to boost tourism.
🚦 They renamed the streets to "Edelweiss" and so on. Restaurants featuring German-style food were added.
📈 I can't speak to authenticity, but the plan worked, if slowly. Beloved and I visited a couple of times in the 90's.
🧳Today, "Alpine Helen" is bustling, especially in the fall with die leafenspeepers and das Oktoberfest. It's not the wurst place to go.
🚗 Beloved and I are headed there again today for a few days with friends. In the heat of the summer, an important activity is tubing on the Chattahoochee River ("the Hooch"). With recent rains, the long route, nearly 2.5 hours, should be available.
🎶 Road music will include the new Madonna album, Confessions 2.

Photo: propaganda for the white nationalist "Active Atlas Club" removed recently in Helen, Georgia.
Atlas Active Club--white nationalists who place propaganda and train for violence together--have been spending time in north Georgia recently.
If you see their stickers, please remove them and let us know. We always welcome tips about Atlas A.C. and other racist groups in our region. Our email is: [email protected]
Last year, we wrote about a founder of Atlas Active Club, Adam Davenport. Check out the article here:
