¿Sabías que la famosa marca de cátsup Heinz fue la primera empresa en producir de forma masiva y comercial los frijoles enlatados en el mundo?
Antes de la Revolución Industrial y de la colonización en América este alimento era cosechado y consumido habitualmente por los nativos americanos mediante recetas completamente caseras. Fue en el año 1895 cuando el empresario Henry John Heinz comenzó la fabricación a gran escala de los frijoles cocidos dentro de envases metálicos herméticos en su fábrica ubicada en la ciudad de Pittsburgh en Pensilvania. Las latas de metal se sellaban y calentaban para destruir por completo las bacterias basándose en el invento patentado por el comerciante Peter Durand en el año 1810 lo que permitía crear un vacío perfecto para mantener la comida sin contaminar. Esta innovación en el envasado facilitó la distribución masiva del producto transformando por completo los hábitos alimentarios globales de la población durante el siglo XX.

On the subject of baked beans though, folks in the US are being gouged (thanks in part to the convict, but only in part as they always cost more).
For comparison, a can of regular Heinz baked beans here at Safeway costs $5.99 (for 390g). In the UK, the same beans are £1.40 ($1.89) for a can (415g too), without the loyalty club discount. That makes the US can more than 3x the price.

Kauft statt dessen z.B. den Ketchup der Werder Feinkost GmbH. Ein deutsches Unternehmen seit 150 Jahren. Ich kaufe schon lange den Bio Tomatenketchup von denen. Der schmeckt super. Sehr fruchtig. Und hat auch noch im Vergleich zu anderen Ketchups nur wenig #Zucker (13g) drin. Ein Blick in die Zutatenliste zeigt, das keinerlei Zusatzstoffe drin sind.
Ihr unterstützt auf diese Weise eine deutsche Firma und tretet einem US Megakonzern in den Arsch. Und nebenbei ist er auch noch gesünder und schmeckt viel besser.

My life ended with the murder of my wonderful son, Luke, nearly 10 years ago, and my wife, Rita's life which ended nearly 5 years ago. All due to the Neo-Nazi, hate of foreigners, actions of Rolf Zielezinski. I shall never understand why the prosecutor would not charge him with a Neo-Nazi, hate murder, when there was so much evidence of weapons, which could easily be re-enabled, and Nazi/Hitler memorabilia in his apartment.
I grieve every single day for the loss of Luke and Rita, and utterly resent the fact, that this murderer will be free to be with his 3 sons and family again, within a short time.
I will forever partially blame the police for my loss, because they did not competently, fully, and without prejudice, investigate a known suspect, Rolf Zielezinski, for the earlier murder of Burak Bektaş. If they had my son, and wife would still be alive and with me today.

Mein Leben endete mit der Ermordung meines wunderbaren Sohnes Luke vor fast zehn Jahren und dem Ende des Lebens meiner Frau Rita vor fast fünf Jahren. Alles aufgrund des ausländerfeindlichen Hasses und neonazistischen Tat des Rolf Zielezinski. Ich werde nie verstehen, warum die Staatsanwaltschaft ihn nicht wegen neonazistischen Hassverbrechens anklagen wollte, obwohl es so viele Beweise für Waffen, die leicht wieder einsatzbereit wären, und Nazi-/Hitler-Erinnerungsstücke in seiner Wohnung gab. Ich trauere jeden einzelnen Tag um den Verlust von Luke und Rita und bin zutiefst bestürzt darüber, dass dieser Mörder bald wieder frei sein wird und mit seinen drei Söhnen und seiner Familie zusammen sein kann.
Ich werde die Polizei für immer mitverantwortlich für meinen Verlust machen, weil sie einen bekannten Verdächtigen, Rolf Zielezinski, nicht kompetent, umfassend und unvoreingenommen wegen des früheren Mordes an Burak Bektaş untersucht hat. Wenn sie es getan hätten, wären mein Sohn und meine Frau noch am Leben und heute bei mir.
