@DeGroene Ook de link met huisvesting kan ik niet helemaal volgen. Zoals #HeinDeHaas schrijft:

"[•••] de totale voorraad sociale woningen kromp van 6,5 miljoen in 1979 naar pakweg 2 miljoen in 2017; het aandeel huizen dat valt onder de sociale huisvesting slonk van 31 naar 17 procent van de totale woningvoorraad." -->

Het boek lijkt de richting uit te gaan van dat er aan immigratie feitelijk geen grote nadelen zitten. Volgens #HeinDeHaas vergroot migratie in bestemmingslanden de economie: meer personeel en meer consumenten. De gezamenlijke economische taart wordt daardoor groter. Alleen profiteren vooral bedrijven daarvan. En welvarende burgers. Die kunnen door migratie meer werk uitbesteden, zodat ze zelf meer tijd hebben om meer geld te verdienen. Dus daar waar al geld zit, levert migratie meer geld op.

Een interessante conclusie uit het boek 'Hoe #migratie echt werkt' van #HeinDeHaas is dat steden met meer migranten doorgaans veiliger zijn dan steden met minder migranten. Dit komt doordat migranten er meer belang bij hebben zich voorbeeldig te gedragen dan niet-migranten.

Een andere is dat immigratie bij een westers land ergens tussen de 1% op de overheidsbegroting drukt en 1% oplevert.

En dat de druk op huisvesting 6% was bij bijna 50% sociale woningbouw en 9% toen dat terugliep naar 30%.

Gisteren #Sapiens uitgeluisterd. Vandaag begonnen aan Hoe Migratie Echt Werkt van #HeinDeHaas. Van Spotify mag je niet zoveel uren per maand boeken luisteren zonder bijbetaling. De komende tien dagen mag ik gemiddeld slechts een half uur per dag luisteren. Dat is dan wel los van alle podcasts die ik sowieso al beluister en los van het lezen in de fysieke boeken die hier ook nog rondslingeren. Ondertussen ook wel benieuwd naar #bellhooks. Bekende naam. Nooit iets van gelezen.

Het boek wordt veelgeprezen, de auteur heeft in de formatie aan de fractievoorzitters , maar ook bij Vandaag Inside, de achtergronden van migratie uitgelegd maar kennelijk wordt het allemaal genegeerd.

I spent my Christmas present from my work on some books, amongst others this recent work from #HeinDeHaas on #migration and its #myths

I'll write this down in English too because this blew my mind & I don't think anyone has written it up this concisely:

#HeinDeHaas explains in "How #Migration Really Works" if you stop or strongly restrict #migration you get more #migration & #migrants:
This sounds absurd, but it happens because, people who are only coming to a country for a certain amount of time (for example for seasonal work) will stop leaving and stay indefinitely. Others will race to come before the border closes. Both groups will later get their families to follow them. Others will find new ways to come (different routes, illegal routes etc.).

This has happened multiple times (European Union, USA/Mexico), but there is a perfect example in South America:
There are three former colonies in the Guiana Shield with comparable population in #Guyana (800k), #Suriname (540k) and #FrenchGuiana (300k). It's comparatively difficult to emigrate from the first two since they've been independent, the third belongs to #France with its open #borders to #Europe and other perks.
Yet from the first 440k and 270k people have emigrated, from the third only 5k:

Isn't that remarkable?

Another example is the #Schengen area in Europe, where the mass migration that was feared before the opening of the borders never materialized.

@fingolas, yes, it is 🙁 I am sorry 🙁 I am applying De Haas' methodology. See the "spreading" as it is. Then draw conclusions. (See the above references to #CatherineFieschi and @georgelakoff .) And I don't know that I am right, but with De Haas' "knowledge" my feeling is that we should do something else than broadband broadcasting. I propose first to create group of likeminded #Unionians 🇪🇺 .

#I feel that the "facts" in this book are not suitable for general "spreading". I propose #we first create a "school"(?) of De Haas' "students" who are tuned with his "knowledge"(?) and among #themselves ! And then discuss what to do, of which spreding the facts is only one option.

There is also science and nuanced debate about how to apply (and how not to apply!) "knowledge" in "political arena". I feel De Haas is primarily a coordination tool for like minded people = his "students"(?).

Geen prettig boek als je alleen maar mensen de schuld ergens van wilt geven maar goed dat Hein de Haas een poging doet mythes op het gebied van migratie te ontkrachten.

Om grip te krijgen en misstanden te voorkomen, zou je standaard een buffer moeten inbouwen in de opvang. Maar daar ontbreekt de politieke wil voor, van links tot rechts.’
