Loving being a student this week. Yesterday learning stone-faced earth bank repair and today learning #Devon #hedgelaying with the #Dartmoor Hill Farm Project, plus seeing new bits of Dartmoor.

We did some #hedgelaying training on a small section of an ivy-filled hedge otherwise pegged for removal in #NorthCountyDublin today. Unfortunately interrupted by some rather angry residents who thought we were "do-gooders ruining a perfectly good hedge".

It's minus 3 degrees and I'm off #hedgelaying in an hour. I've put up my flask.

I must be mad. But I will be with a bunch of other mad people where I'll appear relatively sane, so that's OK.

#Context

I bought a new Silky folding pruning saw today. (PSA - I do #woodland management & #hedgelaying for fun) It's very, very sharp. In the #safety instructions it says:

"Use extreme care when folding saw. Do not place fingers or other body parts between the saw blade and the handle."

OK, "fingers" warning ✅ But "other body parts ..."

WHICH other body parts ... ? 🤔

One thing I really like about living where I do is the opportunity to exercise country #craft skills. Here's some #hedgelaying a team of us did a couple of weeks ago - I went back and did some dead-hedging with the brash yesterday.
