Hey Fediverse,
quick #FOSS question.
#HedgeDoc received a very thorough and good looking security report, but the user has deleted their GitHub account in the mean time. We still know the account name.
We normally would like to credit any contribution, but are unsure if the name was abandoned for a reason. It seems not like the name is widely used elsewhere on the internet, so it seems unlikely to be a long standing name and only the GitHub account getting deleted.
What should we do?

Wow, there seems to be no easily self-hostable #FOSS wiki/notes webapp. #hedgedoc comes close, super easy to operate, selfhost, live collaboration, easy interface. But it not being able to search its own notes (wtf 🤪) and having no good way to properly link between documents (only with ugly random urls) is a real problem. #WikiJS seems close but it wants so much metadata for every page, it's really annoying. The UI is also much more complicated. 😔

Oh come on, #hedgedoc can't search its own documents? You can just search the titles and tags? 🤨 I thought I had found a quick note/wiki platform for our workgroup, but that's a big negative there...

I‘m currently preparing a talk which involves a lot of images and other graphical elements. I‘m not sure if my stubborn idea of using HedgeDoc for the presentation was really a good one. At least I‘m gathering valuable information about the presentation feature subset and it‘s limitations.

@MMagdowski Auch gut! Danke! Gerade wenn du in #TeX deine Arbeit schreibst echt sinnvoll. Für kleinere Sachen nutze ich oft #Hedgedoc / #CodiMD oder #HackMD. Darin geht sowas auch prima. -

Imagine a protocol like #LSP, but for adding real-time collaboration to existing text editors. It would allow #Neovim to edit a #Hedgedoc, or peer-to-peer pair programming between #VSCode and #Emacs!
We've come up with our own little protocol like that (for Teamtype), but we'd like to open up the discussion:
That's why we're inviting everyone interested to an initial online gathering on Feb 26, 19:00 UTC, to gauge interest for working on a protocol like this together!

I needed feedback on some conference proposals. But I didn't want to paste markdown into Google Docs (it never comes back out right).
So naturally, instead of just emailing the drafts, I spent the weekend customizing a Hedgedoc v1 instance on a tiny VM.
It runs on SQLite, supports anonymous edits, and I even patched the CSS for better high-contrast colors and comments.
The yak is fully shaved.

Today I’m optimising queries, but for #HedgeDoc and not for work. And to be honest it feels much better doing this for ones own FOSS Project than for work. And nobody tried to offer me a dubious LLM solutions that they don’t understand and I had to understand by reading up on two handful special functions, I never (or at least rarely used) before.

@Mario an #Hedgedoc habe ich zuerst auch gedacht, aber sofort verworfen für diese User-Gruppe wg Markdown. @timo Langer Dateiname ok, aber bei Änderungen desselben dann schlecht zu koordinieren. @fexplorer Das Plugin wäre der Lösung am nächsten, aber ich hab so wenig Zeit.
Weitere Idee: ein #Etherpad-Plugin für #Wordpress kombiniert mit Zugangskontrolle.Kennt das jemand?

I really like collaborative document editing, was using Google docs for a long time. I struggled to find a self-hostable alternative. I really do not want to run a database server for the little load I'd produce.
Turns out that #hedgedoc works just fine with sqlite, which makes it a breeze to deploy. Turns out also that it can use a #forgejo site as an authentication provider (permissions solved). Aaaand turns out that I can do my reveal.js presentations with _zero_ boilerplate :ablobspin:

#Google says they are fighting #adblockers which they frame as thief tools. #Invidious @invidious , #Piped, #webscrapers, #scriptblockers are »adblockers«. Judges especially in post democracy USA start to ignore #antitracking arguments and back Google in their fight against »adblockers«.
We should understand the newer developments as another argument to not feed #GAFAM / #BigTech any more with our content, develop contraceptives and argue about tracking. Instead let us use #Peertube @peertube , Youtube #concurrency, #OnlyOffice @ONLYOFFICE , #Cryptpad @CryptPad , #Nextcloud @nextcloud , #HedgeDoc @hedgedoc , #posteo @posteo.de , #Threema @threemaapp , #Signal @signalapp , #LibreOffice @libreoffice, #LibreWolf @librewolf , …, i.e., software as much #libre as possible.
