"High Temperature Precautions and Tips to Stay Cool:
Drink plenty of cool, non-alcoholic beverages, especially those without sugar or caffeine. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. If you have fluid restrictions from your doctor, ask to see how much you should drink while the weather is hot.
Avoid hazardous activities that may cause sparks and start a wildfire, such as using lawn care equipment and towing with dragging chains along roadways.
Take care of those who might not be aware of high temperature dangers or be able to react accordingly – especially the elderly, young children, and pets. Check on your neighbors.
Limit outdoor activity. Try to schedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, like morning and evening hours. Be sure to wear sunscreen and rest often.
For those who work outside, be sure to take frequent rest breaks in a shaded area or air-conditioned room, if possible. Stay hydrated and take action by moving to a cooler space if you feel signs of heat exhaustion.
Take regular breaks in the shade or in an air-conditioned room. A few hours in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler. Taking a cool shower or bath can help too.
If you do not have air‐conditioning, consider arranging to spend at least parts of the day at another space that is cool. Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is in the high 90s, they will not prevent heat-related illness.
Wear appropriate clothing. Lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing works best.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion. If someone becomes dizzy, nauseated, or sweats heavily, find a cooler location for him or her immediately.
Know the signs of heat stroke. Heat stroke is much more serious than heat exhaustion. The symptoms are similar to heat exhaustion, but also include hot, flushed skin. With heat stroke, the person often stops sweating and the skin will be unusually dry. If heat stroke is a possibility, call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is life threatening!
Do not leave children (and pets) unattended in vehicles. It only takes a matter of minutes on a relatively mild day for a vehicle to reach deadly temperatures.

Grand Canyon National Park:
"...Grand Canyon, Ariz. – Grand Canyon National Park rangers and emergency personnel responded to two separate heat-related incidents on June 12 and June 16, resulting in three deaths. In both cases, the deceased hikers were hiking trails in the Inner Canyon, where temperatures can exceed 109 F in the shade during midday hours.
On June 12, a 72-year-old male succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness along the South Kaibab Trail; on June 16, a 67-yr old male and a 68-yr old female also appear to have succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness on the North Kaibab Trail, although the investigation is still ongoing. Despite rapid response and aerial support, all three individuals were found deceased when responders arrived. All individuals were transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner office. We have no additional information at this time...."

Heat illness death on the Bright Angel Trail.
National Park Service: "...On June 3, 2026, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Grand Canyon National Park Regional Communications Center received reports of an 18-year-old male experiencing heat-related symptoms below Havasupai Gardens on the Bright Angel Trail. National Park Service rangers responded and located the individual approximately 30 feet below the trail in a remote area near Garden Creek.
Despite rapid response efforts by park rangers and a coordinated helicopter rescue operation, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.
The individual was on a day hike from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back via the Bright Angel Trail. ..."

ABC News: 400 people treated for heat-related illness at Arizona airshow as record temperatures bake the West
"...As the temperatures soared to 105 degrees on Saturday in Phoenix, Ariz., the third-straight day the weather has topped the 100-degree mark, more than 400 people attending an airshow in nearby Glendale were treated for heat-related illnesses, authorities said.
At least 25 people attending the Luke Days Airshow at Luke Air Force Base were overcome by the sweltering weather and had to be hospitalized for various heat-related illnesses..."

AZFamily: Hiker dies after being rescued from trail in Gold Canyon
"..Around 12:45 p.m., PCSO received a call from a group of five hikers in the Superstition Mountains. They were hiking from the Wave Cave trailhead. The hikers told crews they had been on the trail for six hours, and many of them were experiencing heat-related issues. ...A 33-year-old man in their group became unresponsive, and a bystander started CPR before medical crews arrived. ..."

"A man died of heat exposure at Natural Bridge Trailhead on August 1,.Bystanders saw Robino stumble as he returned from the one-mile roundtrip Natural Bridge Trail. The bystanders offered to help Robino, but he declined. They said his responses did not make sense. Robino got in his car and drove off a steep 20-foot embankment at the edge of the parking lot. The car rolled over and airbags deployed.... ...NPS EMTs started CPR and moved Robino into the air-conditioned ambulance. Robino was declared dead at 4:42."
