  1. Heathrow’s third runway is a bottomless money pit. Stop it now | Simon Jenkins
    By Simon Jenkins

It won’t promote growth, will take decades and will swallow up billions of taxpayers’ money. The only winner will be the airport’s owners

  2. The expansion of Heathrow would be an expensive disaster for Britain and the world. Burnham needs to block it | George Monbiot
    By George Monbiot

A third runway would fly in the face of reason. If we are to prioritise human life over short-term ‘growth’, we need to use planes less, not more

  3. ‘I have nothing in the UK at all’: British man torn from his Swedish wife and home

  4. "Third Heathrow runway should only go ahead if airlines pay for cleaner flying, say advisers"

The government now has 4 options:

    1. Cancel Heathrow expansion plans

    2. Build the 3rd runway and introduce tough new legislation to force airlines to be carbon neutral

    3. Ignore the climate change commitments and build the runway anyway

    4. Build the runway and pretend to introduce legislation as per option 2, but make sure it's completely toothless so that it has no effect

Of course what they should do is option 1.

    I'm guessing they'll go for option 3 or 4, probably 4.

I'm not sure if option 2 is even possible.
