I can't quite describe my feelings, it wasn't as if my tree (Holle's tree) was indeed cut down, but almost like it had been replaced by this statue. My sadness wasn't as great as it would have been but it was there. It was a nice sculpture, but not my tree. I started wondering if I could go to the neighbors & request to plant a new apple tree in their woods, as a sort of tribute to Holle to replace the missing tree. I'm painfully shy but I wanted to do it. I was still undecided when the dream ended.

Upon awakening I saw similarities to real-world thoughts. Holle's apple tree. The Irminsul & its fate. I also wondered about Ewiger Jäger as I'd been thinking about him & had just set up his offering on the Irminsul. In the dream, one symbol was replaced by another, & then I was pondering how to do another replacement. A redesign...? Like the Irminsul? Ewiger Jäger & Holle aren't traditionally associated with the Irminsul BUT there are loose, similar connections, especially if you buy the theory that Holle is associated with Frikka & Ewiger Jäger is associated with Wotan, of whom Irmin is supposed to be an aspect. (Urglaawe seems to reject this theory. I'm used to seeing cognates in myths of various cultures, I believe Holle/Frikka & Ewiger Jäger/Wotan likely have a common source but differentiated over time, kind of like how Hathor & Sakhmet from Egyptian myth are different yet sometimes the same.) I also came across a reference to Holle & a rooster in a tree, I believe, I meant to cover it but forgot & will need to try to find it again someday. Anyway that's when I was seeking ties between the Saxon Irminsul & the Norse Yggdrasil, & the Pennsylvania Dutch "tree of life," as I assume they too are connected.

    ...

Anyway that's my brain wondering if I'm being signaled to do something, by Ewiger Jäger or Holle or who, though I'm unsure what. Maybe something about the apple tree or Irminsul.

I'm losing my focus so that's all for now. #spirituality #heathenry

I hurried out & looked for the apple tree. So worried to dread. Miraculously, it was still there!--yet changed. At first, it was like when you buy a Christmas tree with the branches all tied down with twine or whatever?--the branches were all pulled up to the top, & leafless (possibly naturally). It was also leaning back at a slant as if it had been partly uprooted. Yet it was still there & alive. I was saddened to see its rough state but relieved that it was there. I went over to it & put my forehead against its base & offered a sort of small mental thanksgiving. Then noticed something odd. The base wasn't roots, but a large old ceramic square of some kind, like a platform.

I looked up at the tree again. It had changed. Wasn't a half-uprooted denuded apple tree with its branches all up, but this ceramic base, with a tall metal art sculpture of some sort. Greenish/verdigris, gently twisted metal bars in a vaguely eight or infinity or hourglass-style design, hard to describe as I didn't take a good look. It was about the same height the dream tree had been, maybe 8-10ft tall, though tilted far back & almost lying on its side. I knew the neighbors meant to set it up as a sort of art installation.

Ugh, my dumb drawing can't do it justice but it's all I have. Cont. #spirituality #heathenry

Anyway, I said I'd mention a dream, sorry about all that.

In my dream, I went outside, it seemed to be summer as the trees were in full leaf & seemed dark green though it was quite gloomy, evening maybe, & the neighbors in the woods had been leaf blowing their yard like in reality. I noticed that while the big trees were still standing (I've had dreams they were all cut/knocked down), the undergrowth had been cleared out, it was green & nice in some spots & lovely to look at without all the bushes & leaf litter but this meant all the small/young trees had been removed. So I had mixed feelings.

Also I knew this had been done as a bunch of kids had moved in with the neighbors. I think there was play equipment in the yard or something. I went in the garage, maybe to feed the stray cat, & looked out the garage window, which overlooks the woods near the neighbors' house. Out this window I saw that the neighbors had constructed a wooden treehouse high up with ladder steps leading to it & also like a wooden waterslide or one of those enclosed slides you find on playgrounds. I knew I'd already seen a rudimentary treehouse but this was much more elaborate. I noticed how the structure swayed a bit in the wind. It was really nice, but again I lamented the pristine woods being changed like this. I had mixed feelings of wanting to explore it, & of wishing it was never there.

I remembered a small tree that used to stand by the garage (a real tree/bush, it was pretty much stripped to a stick in the ice storm but was still there in the dream) & looked toward it. It was gone, cut down as I'd feared. I was saddened. Then with dread I thought of the apple tree! Please please have not cut down the apple tree. 😭 I left the garage to go look. Anyway. It's hard enough finding things to honor Frau Holle with. Ewiger Jäger? You can pretty much forget it. He's not well known at all so there's really not much out there for him. I've had limited luck searching for Holle on Etsy, for example (she's beloved in Germany, especially Hessen, I believe, probably due to the Brothers Grimm), but Ewiger Jäger, nope. He's much more region specific, I guess; the Wild Hunt is usually associated with, say, Wotan/Odin.

So I can't really set up much of a space for him. I just let him borrow Holle's, I guess. Yesterday at Walmart I found these adorable little candle holders with antlers on them & thought, that looks like a nice offering spot, it isn't standard though Ewiger Jäger is occasionally depicted with horns. I brought it home so afraid I'd break it. 😩 First set it on my wooden box but then noticed it fits nicely in the offering spot on the Irminsul so I placed it there & put the apple in it, so I'm not taking that offering away, just adding to it. (The apple is from the apple tree I've referenced previously. Took it a bit early as its lone surviving companion apple went missing.) I've also previously gone over how I know this depiction of the Irminsul is problematic, & I wish somebody would design a new one free of fashy nonsense, but that's for another day.

In any case this is how things currently stand for honoring Ewiger Jäger, I haven't many other ideas. Cont. #spirituality #heathenry

  7. Dream I had while napping earlier, seems significant though I haven't figured out how yet.

For context I recently learned of the Urglaawe (reconstructed Pennsylvania Dutch heathenry, I'm not an Urglaawer, I don't do specific rituals due to my OCD & I have no community to belong to but I like to learn) holiday of Alleleweseel/Allelieweziel, it's complicated for my stupid brain but it seems to involve Frau Holle departing to take over the Wild Hunt for the winter season while the usual leader of the Hunt, Der Ewiger Jäger (the Eternal Hunter), takes her place looking after folk on earth, like they switch out over the seasons, I did not know this. I figured that since Holle is a winter being she's here in the winter and gone in the summer but I guess it makes sense? Anyway, I feel I got a sign from Frau Holle a couple of years back, so I set up a little space in my room for her. I don't feel her constantly, alas, but that sign was convincing enough for me that she's out there somewhere.

I've been seeking a masculine/father figure being without much luck so far. I appealed to Ewiger Jäger to look out and provide for us in tough times since he took that role in some Pennsylvania Dutch stories (dissimilar to the behavior typically associated with the Wild Hunt), but haven't a feeling whether he's accepted or rejected it. I tell myself this is going to be a long tough period (at least 4yrs...you know what I'm talking about) so maybe I won't know that he's done this job until after...? In any case, my interest in him was piqued again after learning that he supposedly returns to earth to protect people through the winter while Holle is away, at least if I'm understanding correctly, I'm kind of a moron so I could be getting it wrong though I have no one to ask.

I don't know the exact date of Alleleweseel/Allelieweziel so I chose Halloween to wish Holle goodbye for now & I hope Ewiger Jäger steps in in the meantime. 😕 Cont. #spirituality #heathenry

  8. When newly appointed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed U.S. troops in September with his now-infamous challenge to “get fit, get in line, or get out,” he framed his message as a “come-to-Jesus meeting.”

The speech, delivered at Quantico and amplified through conservative media, echoed themes of discipline, masculinity, and ideological purity. “We don’t have a military full of Nordic Pagans,” he declared—linking physical appearance, faith, and patriotism in a way that startled many service members and religious observers alike.

  9. Well, while I'm stuck waiting for my meds... 😑 ...here's what I placed under my window where the book towers were. A shrine/altar/whatever to Frau Holle & my Pennsylvania Dutch ancestors! Everything here has some meaning. E. g. the little box w/ the ship on it is German & reminds me of how Conrad first came here in 1767 perhaps on a similar ship. The little redware plate is from a Pennsylvania artist & the ship & fish remind me of the Herrings. I found the tacky Deutschland stein in my dad's room, I assume my brother bought it in Fulda. And there are the Frau Holle figures, & all my books on Saxon/Anglo-Saxon heathenry & the Pennsylvania Dutch. Etc.

Before anyone freaks out: I know that depiction of the Irminsul is highly problematic. I await when someone designs a better one. Also, yes, those are books about Nazis still awaiting a shelf. They're related to my writing, plus I like to stay informed of when history repeats itself. Unfortunately. 😒 #heathenry #spirituality

  11. I just remembered. I'd been feeling sad last night, remembering Dad's final night here, that I haven't heard the first robin singing in the morning this year. I don't go stand outside in the dark at dawn anymore. That black stray cat I wrote about (I'll link the Tumblr backup as it's easier to keep track tehuti88-heritage.tumblr.com/p ) has since become a member of the family. I wanted to get back into walking again--what Ma & I had been attempting to do, when we returned & Dad had (unknowingly) had his heart attack--yet just never had the strength or motivation, I feel dumb walking alone. 😞 I went to the utility room to briefly open the window & listen to the night life, my newer habit, then went to bed.

As I finished my reading & online stuff & was getting ready to log off I heard right outside my window--a robin singing. Just briefly. Then it was gone. I read the last letter Dad wrote me & went to sleep. #spirituality #heathenry

  12. I returned the ugly little apple (all shriveled up now) to its tree today, along with the little white spider pendant I got on Etsy; I hung that over a low branch yet also tucked it in the crook, I imagine the weather may do a number on it though it

Eh, somebody's blowing things up in the distance, it's not July 4th, now poor Sassy's hiding under the footstool...

...though it can't be helped. Frau Holle isn't associated with spiders, though I think that's how she sent me a sign, as geese or whatever aren't very common around here. And like I said, she spins flax, & spiders also spin. That was the only way I made a connection, re-browsing websites about Hel (the one I first reached out to, who didn't respond), & finding mention of Holle "spinning." (In German, the word for spider is "Spinne.") It hit me, it must be her. Spiders keep appearing since then as if to make a presence known.

Anyway...the apple is returned. My dad is gone 2yrs now. (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry

  13. Eh sorry, had to eat.

My train of thought is faltering anyway. Pretty much, I've been full of thoughts & feelings at this time of year. While it would be appreciated to get another concrete sign--a fatherly figure I long for?--or, like Frau Holle, something I don't expect?--I'm not counting on one. I feel I was extremely lucky to get a sign at all in the 1st place, to demand a 2nd is too much. I even feel guilty to pray for anything specific, I feel I don't deserve anything, yet would still feel hurt if it didn't happen. What I did last year was an anomaly. I won't push my luck, same as IRL, if I ask for help I usually don't get it. I need to try to be patient.

Tomorrow I plan to return the apple I collected last year to its tree, same as before. I expect no sign this time. I still long for more clarity though. This dream seems related, though it asks more questions than it answers. #spirituality #heathenry

  14. I can't remember if I mentioned that dream here, probably did. Ah, I found it, it's here:

As you see...Dad bringing me a gift of an oar, with a ship carved/painted on it, which reminded me of the Palatine migration. So twice now here's a dream featuring a Palatine ship (or at least what I associated with one, as I haven't had luck finding out what these ships looked like).

Tomorrow, June 29th, is the 2nd anniversary of my dad's death, & the 1st anniversary (is that a thing?) of me begging for a sign, & immediately receiving one. So naturally, these things have been much on my mind. I keep asking if there's anyone else out there. Haven't gotten a concrete sign yet. Not long back I saw 2 crows eating yogurt I put out. 2 crows flew past the car as we were coming home a week or so ago. A crow cawed & woke me from a dream of my dad, a couple of hours before he died. But I don't know...could be just coincidence. (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry

  15. I started writing on a notepad among the scattered items on the altar. "You still owe me a wish!" Except I kept messing it up. I tore off the page, tried finding a new clean page, but each had a bit of writing presumably by the guy behind the speaker; random notes & such. I found a different notepad, kept trying, kept messing up--mangled the 1st word, wrote too small, not enough room on the page, etc. I think this is because you can almost never read the same thing twice in a dream, though I usually don't have trouble writing. I think I was just getting too fed up to continue, though I believe this is where the dream ended anyway.

    ...

A fragment of a longer dream I had yesterday(?) featured me finding a small gold ship figurine, a 3-masted one I think, & putting it on my bookshelf as a reminder of my Palatine ancestors immigrating here. Upon awakening this reminded me of another recent dream. (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry

  16. OK, anyway...

I never got the chance to tell the guy my 3rd wish! I was a bit disappointed, but given how unhelpful he'd been w/ the 1st 2, it didn't seem like much of a loss. Still. I decided to leave him a note saying, "You still owe me a wish!" & maybe also my name or e-mail so he'd know who it was. It was intended in a mildly jokey, accusing manner; not angry or malicious. I reasoned that my 3rd wish, whatever it may have been, was the most expendable of the 3 anyway & I could do without.

(What was the wish? I don't know. Most likely IRL, though, would've been something to do w/ my dad. A connection to him even though he's gone, or for him to be content somewhere, or to be proud of me. Alternately, it could have done w/ ancestors in general; I've considered looking to my ancestor Widukind as a father figure, but don't know that he's a decent one, he kind of bailed out on the Saxons. Either way, I'll never know for sure.) (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry

  17. These porcelain or ceramic figures were now bigger than what could've been contained in my rock, but anyway. There were about 3-5 humanlike figures, I think one was a feminine figure like Mary, the others male, kings or saints maybe; & also whatever they were gathered around (a boxlike thing, I think). They were mostly white with a bit of color, shiny glazed, wearing robes. They were neatly fractured apart but in a way that could be easily fixed, at least at 1st...as I revealed them, I held them up & tilted them to empty debris from their insides, & 1 or 2 had a lot of small chips, I worried that they'd crumbled apart so I was more careful. I was surprised to find this old religious figurine hidden inside my rock. The guy near me seemed rather impressed too.

I think I realized then that the guy on the speaker had given up trying to respond to my wish & had left. Likewise the line was gone, just the big guy & me. (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry

  18. We both looked at my rock. Flattened out somewhat. "Like it's clay," I exclaimed, realizing it wasn't a rock at all. The big guy said something, "It looks like a _____." I don't recall the term, if it was even a real term, but it was reference to a particular type of early religious iconography, a sort of small statue or tableau which typically featured a few specific figures from religious belief, gathered in a group, perhaps around a centerpiece--baby Jesus maybe, or a shrine. It was early Christian but from the period where Christianity was still heavily borrowing from paganism, sort of Christian mystic tradition. Not the strict doctrinal Christianity of today.

I picked up my "rock" & started peeling bits of it away--it was indeed a clay layer now, concealing a hollow porcelain(?) figure underneath. As I pulled away the brownish-gray clay it was revealed, broken(?) into a few pieces. (Cont.) #spirituality #heathenry
