  3. 🎉 Wow, the #FDA finally figured out what genes are! 🧬 Their #groundbreaking #approval might just cure your hereditary inability to hear reason. 🤦‍♂️ Let's hope they can gene-edit their way to a solution for selective hearing next. 🙉

  4. Dozing off with your head on one side while wearing your hearing aids.
Kids - just don't do it!

    Ouch!

  5. Does this product exist?

A microphone that you can connect via Bluetooth to any BT speaker or receiver (like a hearing aid) to make that speaker into a sort of PA system?

It seems so obvious that this should exist. But searching I seem to only find these stupid LLM generated articles, and microphones sold with its own speaker or its own receiver that you need to plug in to an aux input. Am I being stupid?

  6. @david

I have moderate hearing loss which is somewhat beyond age appropriate, I also have left sided tinnitus.

I'm very lazy about wearing my hearing aids but the quality of sound when I'm using them is notably better. When I take them out everything sounds as though it's being filtered through a blanket!
Certainly the world is a very noisy place when I'm using my hearing aids - the greatest joy is hearing birdsong that I miss otherwise.

The aids were tuned by the audiologist to minimise the noise of my tinnitus as well.

  7. Hive mind! My partner has fairly extensive bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and is meant to wear hearing aids but found the NHS ones very uncomfortable.

We’re looking at private options, and I’m wondering if anyone in my network has any recommendations for something comfortable that can be worn with glasses.

  8. One day I woke up from a nap because my cat was touching my arm. When I opened my eyes, I saw him open his mouth. He was meowing, but I couldn't hear him.
So I wrote this little poem, with a little sadness and a little acceptance. For all those sounds I love that are fading away as I become increasingly deaf...

My native language is Spanish so I put the original and then the translation.

    Los pájaros se han ido
    Los loros ya no juegan
    en las ramas
    La lluvia ya no canta
    y el viento apenas sopla
    Las risas de los niños
    los perros del vecino
    y la voz de ella
    se alejan poco a poco
    El silencio me devora
    lentamente...

    The birds have left
    The parrots no longer play
    on the branches
    The rain no longer sings
    and the wind barely blows
    The children's laughter
    the neighbor's dogs
    and her voice
    gradually fade away
    The silence slowly devours me...

Perhaps the most painful loss is the loss of oneself, when time slowly steals away your gifts and treasures...

  9. Lilly Partners with Seamless Therapeutics

Eli Lilly enters a potential USD 1 billion alliance with Seamless Therapeutics. The collaboration focuses on gene editing technology for hearing disorders. This agreement expands Lilly's genetic medicine portfolio and development pipeline.

  10. Brilliant #TedX talk by Gael Hannan about the dirty secret that all of us who have #HearingLoss or are #deaf are guilty of frequently doing…we bluff.

But why? We want people to think we understand them, we don’t want to be rude…but in doing so we let them and our selves down.

Good communication requires honesty. We have to advocate for our selves and explain when we need help. Easier said than done. But this was the nudge I needed to continue working on this.

  11. @WuMing2 Ah OK - sorry but that wasn't clear.
My only experience is with the standard NHS Oticon device so there's little else that I can help you with.
My aids have an app but this is optional, the programming is done by an audiologist in person using the Oticon software at the clinic. Setting the aids up, and regular review of those settings is vital.

I don't know if re-asking the question using the hashtags #hearingLoss and #hearingAid might be more helpful.

I I wish your family well and I'm sorry I can't help more

  12. I found this @tedx talk looking for a video about #morsecode (#cw) in #music . It was very enlightening for me as I begin my journey with #hearingloss in fact i’m thinking about doing more QSOs as I practice with the #on4mac #Mactapper paddles
