#Elephants use #MedicinalPlants to treat themselves, researchers find
Victoria Gill, 24 September 2026

"This is the conclusion of a study which interviewed people who live and work alongside the elephants in the #MountElgon region of #Kenya.
"These particular animals have long intrigued scientists with their extraordinary behaviour - they are known as salt-mining elephants, because they go into caves and scrape the rock with their tusks to extract minerals for their diet.
"This newly published research suggests that the same elephants use several different plant species in the forest for medicinal purposes."

The #OrangeBallTree is native to #Chile.
It's been cultivated here as a popular ornamental in pollinator gardens. This flowering tree had hundreds of #pollinators feeding on it. It is a beautiful flower tree! 🧡
It's used as a cultural #MedicinalPlant too. #Calendula is an excellent addition to any food or pollinators gardens. It's an amazing multi-purposeful annual plant that is easy to grow. It is #edible, #medicinal & is also a fave flower choice for #NaturalDye makers 😊
It's sometimes called poor man's saffron as it can be substituted for saffron in #culinary recipes. Most British folks call it pot's gold because it's used in broths/soups.Learn more about how to grow, harvest & use calendula:
