Call centre agents face pressure from every side: customers want speed, supervisors want consistency, and AI is reshaping how every call is measured and coached. Stress is real—38% of workers report levels 7/10 or higher. In high‑volume centres, that should alarm ops and HR. A headset can’t fix culture or pay, but it can remove daily friction that fuels fatigue.

Buying office headsets seems simple -- until deployment reveals hidden friction: wrong connectors, weak range, IT tickets, frustrated users, and gear that churns early. The real question isn’t “what’s cheapest?” but “what removes friction from work?” Stress is high, and workers who feel effective report far higher satisfaction.

Weird. On FreeBSD 15.0, my new Jabra headset works perfectly with the wireless USB dongle. Plug it in, it's picked up as an audio sink and source, and everything Just Works. On Linux Mint (which I still use for gaming and DRM media), the headset reports that it's connected ... then immediately disconnects again :/ No idea why and haven't had the time to debug it.
This further confirms my general impression of FreeBSD and Linux ... Linux distros have much broader software and hardware support, but tend to be a bit jankier. Whereas FreeBSD has a smaller set of software and hardware support, but when it works, it's stable and remains so.

I just signed my kid up for the Ear Bud of the Month Club.
Now, maybe he will stop "borrowing" mine since he loses his so often.

#Meta is raising #prices for #Quest3 and #Quest3S #headsets due to a global surge in #memory chip costs. The price increases, effective April 19th, are $50 for the 128GB and 256GB Quest 3S variants, and $100 for the 512GB Quest 3. Despite the price hikes, Meta remains committed to investing in VR and has a roadmap for new hardware and experiences. https://www.roadtovr.com/meta-raises-quest-3-3s-prices-memory-shortage/?eicker.news #tech #media #news

Gizmodo: It’s Time to Admit Working in VR Has Been One Big Failure. “As someone who’s strapped quite a few headsets to his face, I can say for certain that the most obvious downside of headsets is likely the biggest reason why working in VR has been a bust—headsets absolutely suck to wear for long periods. If you’ve ever tried to use one for an extended period, you know what I’m talking about.”

Also habe ich jetzt zwei davon.
CNET's audio expert just dropped their top picks for WFH headsets in 2025. Apparently, finding a headset that doesn't make you sound like you're broadcasting from a tin can is still a challenge.
What's your go-to gear for crystal-clear calls (or just surviving another Zoom meeting)?

PC Gamer: A YouTuber has built his own VR headset for a little over $150 and made the whole project open source, so I might just give it a go. “For many, virtual reality hardware is still an expensive niche to get into. Even our top budget pick in our best VR headset guide, the Meta Quest 3S, can still set you back nearly $300. Well, a YouTuber has rocked up with a homemade headset project […]

#VR is kinda fun.
VR #headsets kinda suck. The controllers aren't bad, really, but the headsets are awkwardly balanced, relatively heavy, and come with a long, thick tethering cable that gets in your way (and you can even quite easily get tangled up in it). I've lost count of the times I've either managed to hook a controller in the cable while playing #BeatSaber, or gotten it tangled around my ankles. Beat Saber's 360 mode is particularly bad, because it's easily possible to accumulate multiple complete turns in the same direction.
Wireless adapters for wired VR headsets such as the HTC Vive and Valve Index (which I understand to be more or less the HTC Vive 3) exist, but they suck as well, not least because they rely on their own dedicated WLAN in the already-overcrowded 2.4-2.5GHz band. (WiFi, Bluetooth, microwave ovens, wireless doorbells, some cordless phones...) The crowdsourced wireless adapter for the Valve Index has almost 70% negative comments, citing everything from short battery life and poor visual quality to repeated crashes and software drivers that often take multiple reboots to get them to work.
I've been working on trying to work around this with a passive cable suspension rig to try to feed the cable from directly overhead and auto-retract it when there is slack.
And you know? It's not working badly at all. I still have some fine tuning to do, but ... I think I'm definitely making progress.
