I’m trying to get through the #WNBA season without access to ESPN.
Currently getting by with #WNBALeaguePass (the app quality, or lack-thereof kills me) and over the air broadcasts.
I picked up a SiliconeDust #HDHomeRun network-attached TV tuner that’s plugged into my router. Even with a very cheap/tiny antenna it works pretty well.
I can use the HDHomeRun app on my devices/set-top-box/computer and I also added to my #Jellyfin server so I can access it off-network via #Tailscale.

I’ve opted out of sports. I watch tv with #Philo an use #hdhomerun for locals. I don’t miss it either. The greed is too much.

So I'm thinking I'll set up a #Guix VM on my #proxmox mini PC cluster, connect it to my DMZ, add an external SSD, and use #podman to run #Jellyfin connected to my #hdhomerun but I'm also interested in recording FM radio and building an archive of jazz tracks with metadata if possible. Anyone know if this is possible? I do know about m3u "tuners" can I record from those as well?

Ah, the joys of #cablecutting My wife complained that the #silicondust #hdhomerun tuner would not change channels. Cue the house #sysadmin. After an hour uninstall/reinstall, power off/power on, seeing if the tuner worked on my android app, and checking to see if worked on my apple app, I logged on the SiliconDust forum. Turns out a bad update to the app was sent to #roku users on April 7th. An update has been submitted, but Roku has not released it.

@neil @guardeddon @revk This is something I do for “other services” due to our paltry and constantly hammered 65Mb connection. The #HDHomeRun is also fantastic for some classic recording of over-the-air content.

This weekend's project: running another DTV feedline from the roof, down to a gas-discharge surge arrestor, into the house, through the crawlspace, and up into my home office, to a second HDHomerun tuner.
We live 5 miles away from SFO airport, and 0.5 miles away from an electrical substation, which causes unique OTA TV reception problems. I managed to solve the vast majority of them with stacked Yagi antennas spaced a wavelength apart fed into a combiner, but this arrangement picks up multipath noise for two channels and renders them unwatchable.
This feedline is for a separate antenna, not combined with the other antennas, which will be configured specifically for those two channels (KPIX and KBHK, which broadcast from the same antenna on Mt Sutro). The HDHomerun app is smart enough to pick the right tuner for the right channels, hopefully solving this problem for good.

@rushtone they had a prime niche market at their disposal - OTA TV for cord cutters - but they let their product and their services simply stagnate. I switched to a #HDHomerun device and couldn't be happier about it. More fiddly to get set up for recordings than TiVo was, and the UI isn't as slick, but better hardware and more flexibility, like seamlessly integrating multiple tuners into one user interface.
It's just kind of disappointing... TiVo was the best at what they did back in the day.

It's a little disturbing to think that w/ an IPTV box, I could mirror the IP stream onto my network and the IPTV box would be able to receive/decode them. Though just realized that AC-4 might be an issue.
The cool part is that currently, 4 major broadcasters are on a single RF channel, so a single tuner would get most of the local channels.

j288: ALP frames carried by TS frames using J288 encoding (full mux).
alp-pcap: Pcap packet capture of ALP frames (full mux).
ipv4-pcap: Pcap packet capture of IPv4 frames (full mux).
dash-tar: TAR archive containing DASH segments (selected virtual channel). -
Looking at the #HDHomeRun HTTP api, and I'm disappointed that they don't list the RF channel.
I also tried to tune to channel 7, and save the entire stream w/ the save command, but got nothing.
If I tune, and filter based upon program, it does work. But it appears I can only set one program to tune.
Hopefully they'll add a more that lets you pull the full IP data.

Ok, I updated the firmware fix this:

HDFX-4K: Prioritize tuning ATSC 1.0 channels on the ATSC 1.0 tuners.looks like there's a LOT of updates for the FLEX 4k.
And another nice feature is that it starts the scan at ch 51 instead of the old 69. No point scanning channels that won't have signals on them.

They do have an http interface, BUT it's not smart enough to demux from an existing channel, that is, if you are fetching 7.1, and request 7.2 which is on the same rf channel, it'll use another tuner, instead of simply demuxing 7.2 from the already tuned 7.1 channel.
My PVR software I wrote does that. You can get full channel via http: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/http_api , but apparently it only does 8vsb, and won't do atsc3.

It does look like Silicon Dust isn't very smart w/ how they automatically select tuners on the Flex 4k. So, only tuners 0 & 1 can do ATSC 3.0, while all four can do ATSC 1.0, but if you do auto tuner selection, and start a couple ATSC 1.0 channels, it'll use tuner 0 and 1, meaning you can't record an ATSC 3.0 channel.

@milan ah. #Hdhomerun does not capture video through streaming services. Just OTA broadcast stuff. Streaming, yeah you are sorta out of luck for legal ways to do it, without paying for the stream.
I have thought it would be really interesting to integrate a plugin to jellyfin for streaming services. Something like "you put your username/password for Netflix in, and #jellyfin materializes the content Netflix makes available, and streams it through jelly for you legally"

So. #hdhomerun + #xteve + #plex my only working config was to make the transcoder buffer 12 hours, use #ffmpeg, and I'm not quite sure but maybe nvenc/nvdec was doing awkward things because after a proxmox upgrade I didn't push the P400 to the container. Seems to be working quite stable now.

Really pulling my hair out trying to get pvr to work with #xteve + #plex + #hdhomerun ... seems like the buffer just keeps on looping on all clients after it works for some time. I *THINK* it's related to the transcoder throttling so I set it to 12 hours (in seconds). Fingers crossed.

Time to re-post my #intro. I love my family. I enjoy respectful #conversation and the exchange of ideas. I feel like the world is more fun when we try to take care of each other. I’m a #tech hobbyist. I like messing around with different OSes and am just stepping into the world of #RaspberryPi. My current daily driver is #MacOS. I’d like to learn a #programming language.
