Ok after reading "Wellness Check" (Im not done but over halfway) everything is way different and way cozier and idk its all cute. Pretty much none of my problems i wrote about are present here.

Also the neurodivergent rep is top tier, its a nice mix of scifi but also practical solutions and bringing stuff up that has sent me down other rabbitholes. Its also just real cute and cozy mostly and gets so much right aaaa. Didnt expect it to give me ideas to look into for solving some issues but sure.

So great, now im waiting for those aliens to take over... thanks a lot to those who threw me down this rabbithole.

So I got nerdsniped into reading HDG. For a while I avoided it assuming it wasn't for me and tbh to some extent that is true. At the same time I couldn't stop reading since it presented some interesting concepts. Anyways this isn't gonna be the usual gushing over it I've seen. Actually I'm not sure I've seen thoughts like this at all about HDG. Many say they would want to submit but these are my cases against that.

First off it's horny... Yeah, but I don't really care about these aspects. I have been reading wanting to shout at these aliens for all the ethical concerns, many misunderstandings, and noncon activities.

I can somewhat see the appeal of a caretaker but it did raise questions about "are you even living if ur always so drugged up?", "What is free will and do we even have it today?", and more.

I feel like if ur so drugged up it really sucks. You wouldn't be able to do much or have any sense of purpose. This story also goes strongly against the things I'd fight for such as bodily autonomy and so on. And as for are we free in this world? Not really but it's a different kind of not free. Here you are more free but can slip through the cracks and have to work to survive. Other than that you do have free will (in theory assuming free will is real). In the story it's like having a next level helicopter parent.

Also I talked to several folk and many seem to trust the affinity but I strongly don't trust them for several reasons:

First people claim that they just wanna take care and have pure intentions which is a cute thought but I am not just gonna trust them. They went to war with humanity which assuming casualties I'd say proves human life is not the most important thing to them.

Next up is the crazy manipulation... This ones big. Its a bunch of small and big things. Starting off the amount of drugging to manipulate the humans to doing what they want even against their will is far from consent. Same goes for using their power, strength and status for similar purposes. On the smaller side of things they treat humans as if they are stupid. They belittle them over things that aren't even really anything to do with stupidity. Eg. When the human gets on the ship at first and everything is in the alien script and she uses the wrong soap and drugging aside gets belittled for using it wrong as it's actually considitioner but how would any human know? This constantly goes on when they are made fun of for things they could never know. Further if keeping pets is such a common thing for them then why are the pets quarters all using language no pet and in this case human could understand? I
To me it feels like a restriction of knowledge intentionally put there to force further reliance on their owners and restrict autonomy. Its hard to belive this isn't intentional with everything else going on and how smart they are. Also we have basically thought control and moderation. Something all the worst technofaciests would be drooling over. That's pretty not ok. Hm yes I love all my unfiltered thoughts being filtered somehow and probably logged... No those are my private thoughts and they should stay private.


There's also the total lack of consideration towards the pets comfort. Especially in the start they are forced against their wishes constantly going where the owner wants despite constant protest in which they can very well understand but ignore. I know this would suck spoons-wise and would drain me. I mean this basically already happens IRL as family, the system, and other forces force me to do things against my wishes when I don't have the energy for it. It doesn't seem like factors such as autistic burnout would be accounted for soo that sounds like hell. You do what the owner wants when they want it. In the story when they protest they are again belittled and called cute and not taken seriously.

With all my frustrations towards the aliens I was able to come up with some ideas (ofc the main characters might struggle to come up with ideas when they're so drugged up so I don't really blame them but yea). First I wonder if the simple explaining how being so helicoptered is actually harmful to ur mh. This ofc assumes no malice which after all this I don't think I believe so it's time for more violent solutions and war crimes. In theory since they are plants perhaps certain diseases that infect and kill plants could he researched. Make it nice n slow acting so it spreads. Also it the humans could be made carriers to this while not being affected it makes humans a high risk pet. If the risk is so high it puts them and other pets at risk they might give up at least until they are sure it's made safe.

Another option to prevent some of their drugs from working for example the aphrodisiacs could probably be countered by blocking the receptors so they can't bind.

At the same time (and this is way higher casualties on the human side) maybe their biology could be modified with a virus so that their drugs cause violent reactions including death. If human wellbeing is the #1 goal then this threat should at least stop the drugging.

I was also rooting for the humans escaping or perhaps negotiating with the aliens to try make em understand a lot even tho I figured that wasn't gonna happen.

I mean after the humans escape attempt they were gonna have a talk and idk if I missed it but the story appears to skip over that talk. I thought this could be very important and interesting to the story but ig not. I hoped the human would speak up a bit and perhaps some understanding could be made.

I understand that a lot of this story is a smut specificly made to explore some of these points and honestly that's fine. It may specifically be meant to explore these uncomfortable topics that parallel many irl issues and in a way that's kinda neat. I just took this way to seriously. I also wanted to believe that the aliens have the humans best interests in mind, but way too many things point to that not being the case. Still I'd be cautiously optimistic. Gosh these aliens could learn a thing or 2 about consent.

I think there was probably more I wanted to say but I can't remember it rn. Maybe I'll do a follow up post if I think of enough things.

Very very off topic side note: if they are plant people with various plants grafted into them I wonder if you could for example graft some mangos into them.

Onthe subject of HDG: I have been wondering what a "floret cut" would generally be for something like Half-Life... :blobcatthinking: Like, obviously all the scientists and guards will be transfems - that is a given. But I wonder what other mods the Affini would do to the game for florets - and honestly this is a pretty fun thought experiment! :blobcatgiggle:

I know I've said this before, but if I booted up tomorrow and there was an Affini habitation ship flloating over my city - you can bet your boots that I would abandon my usual routine and **RUSH** to a domestication centre to enroll to be a volutary floret!

I had an amazing simulation last night that an Affini showed up and domesticated me. She even got me a matching shirt with hers so everyone knew who I belonged to... It was a nice simulation. :3
