My four plates from this morning. I think you can guess wh8ch was in backwards. These are a little softer than I've come to expect. Not sure if that's missed focus, or glass for ground glass being too thick maybe. Need to test. Still acceptable though.

A tale of four frames...
The first two images were shot on Ortho Plus, the second two on HP5. The Ortho shots were taken at slightly different shutter speeds in order to try to bracket the exposure a bit. On both the sky was pretty washed out, which makes some sense given the film. On the first I tried using a drawn and parametric mask in darktable - I'm still *very* new to masks, so I don't think I did a great job...you can see some interesting marks around the tree trunk. But I used the mask to increase the contrast of the sky to pull some of the clouds out.
The second two were taken at the same shutter speed as each other - I managed to catch a bird in one of the frames, and wanted to have one without the bird to see what I liked better. The sky looks a lot better right out of the gate - the only adjustment I made (other than reversing via negadoctor) was to increase the contrast slightly, which is something I generally do on all my black and white photos. If I had this to do over again, I would've added an orange or red filter. I need to see if one that I already have will fit the 210mm lens I have.
I wish - and a better handle of both masking and the negadoctor module could likely get me there - that I could get the exposure and detail of the tree trunk on the Ortho frames with the sky of the HP5 frames.
Oh, and I guess this means the new field camera works. π

Historic Millbrook village in rural NJ, May 2026
The straight lines in a lot of these photos made me begin to learn to use the lens correction moduleβ¦the scanning lens has no appreciable distortion, but the Nikon 28-300 that more or less lives on this camera body has some that it noticeable with straight lines.

Pleased overall with both the new notching system and 3 of 4 of the pictures themselves. Scanned at 1200 DPI and lightly edited in #Darktable (I removed a few dust spots, cropped, and upped the contrast very slightly).
You can tell from one of these pictures especially that we are still in a pretty heavy drought.

Closing out my #FP4Party posts with a few more shots from the Graflex up in/near #Asheville. These are from Craggy Pinnacle. They're not perfect but well worth carrying my camera up that trail.

TREES! #FP4Party
I sometimes wonder if I'm getting "boring" taking as many pictures of trees as I do, but then I see some of my favorite photographers on Mastodon also taking a lot of pictures of trees so I feel validated. I love the way that bark looks on B&W film. My wife always gets a chuckle when we're walking and I say βhang on a sec, I gotta get a picture of this great big knobby bastard!β

I shot a few rolls and sheets of #IlfordFP4 over the last few weeks, so I'm finally ready for a few entries for #FP4Party.
I'll start with a shot from my #Graflex in/near #Asheville. This particular shot was from an overlook on the #BlueRidgeParkway heading toward Craggy Gardens. Shot with a red filter. The 3000 px resolution doesn't do it justiceβ¦zooming in on the treeline on the full 4x5 scan is awesome. I've included a snippet of a screenshot as an example.

My previous #MonochromeMarch post was photos I processed in March, but I realise a couple were taken long ago. I've already posted these to in a thread, but lets put them up on the tag and say the obligatory "I give permission to include these in the Monochrome March zine"

These are the scan of those last to Ilford glass plates.
