  2. > Here’s what gives me hope:

In April, I met with students at North Carolina A&T University, our nation’s largest HBCU. The Republican-controlled state Board of Elections had recently eliminated their on-campus polling place, meaning some 15,000 students now must travel far off-campus to cast a ballot.

When they went to the state capital to protest the decision, they were told that voting was a privilege, not a right. They were told, “You have five minutes to leave.”

That did not stop them. These young leaders are organizing, speaking out, and refusing to let anyone take their power. They are fighting for young people’s participation in our democracy, and they are fighting for Black and brown Americans’ voices.

I am inspired by their work, and I will share it whenever I can — because this is the energy we need to bring to the fight for voting rights. I’ll be on the road this fall to lift up their story, as well as the voters, organizers, advocates, and candidates who are impacted by the Callais decision. I hope you will support me in this work.

  3. Capital B News: As Fisk University Moves Forward With Data Center Proposal, Opposition Grows. “Some students and alumni say the timing — Fisk is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year — and where it was announced runs counter to the university’s long-standing liberal arts legacy. The hall was named after the Fisk Jubilee Singers, whose global tours in the late 1800s raised money to […]

  4. I just listened to a #podcast from @progresstx where they were suggesting that #BlackAthletes choose an #HBCU over an #SEC #university because, #football.

I used their "Connect with us" form to point out that this isn't on Black athletes to solve. White students — athletes and non-athletes — should consider alternatives, especially #HBCUs, too. Sometimes we don't have #options, but when we do, we should choose intentionally.

I'm attending a state school because I'm #disabled and my tuition and fees are waived. So I understand that not everyone has this option.

  5. @ai6yr Selling #AmateurRadio seems to be competing with #bigtech buying their way into cash-strapped colleges with #AI curricula, job pipelines, and professorships. Especially #HBCUs who are struggling with increased enrollment, funding cuts through the education department, and political pressure from the #clowncar administration.

  6. CW: Political Race Theory, #STEM

@drcaberry We have options nowadays. I'd like to see more alliances with #HBCUs and colleges in #Africa & the #carribean. I'd also like to see #entreprenural programs collaborate across continents.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended the 1890 Scholars Program, which provided recipients with full tuition and fees for students studying agriculture, food or natural resource sciences at one of 19 HBCUs.

Why did the USDA suspend the 1890 Scholarship Program, and what does it mean for HBCU students?
