This little, unassuming wild beauty was hiding in plain sight just in front of our (unused) front steps until @StevenKennard told me about it.

It's either a mouse-ear hawkweed or an orange hawkweed. I know it's orange, so you might automatically say it's the orange one, but iNaturalist also shows an orange mouse-ear one and I think that name is adorable, so I hope it's that one.

I have never noticed it before, after almost 30 years of living here. How could I have missed its bright faces?

It quite possibly is a newcomer to our place, I guess, the way wildflowers suddenly appear.

This week I was in the Snowy Mountains looking at the NSW Hawkweed Eradication Program. Had a fabulous day amongst alpine wildflowers above Blue Lake just north of Mt Kosciusko - looking for mouse ear hawkweed with dedicated NPWS volunteers.
