Hatvan, Hungary, 1960
In Hungarian, 'hatvan' means sixty. There is also a town called Hatvan, whose main bus station is shown here, which just happens to be about sixty kilometres from Budapest. Legend has it that the town was so named because of this, but evidence suggests the town was called something similar in medieval times, well before the kilometre was delineated as such. Still, it is a nice story.

Hatvan, one of my favorite train stations in Hungary. It’s sort of monumental, it’s a good mix of decay and upkeep, it even has a hairdresser shop :)
