I've seen it repeatedly and been patronised about how I don't have 40k followers and don't know how these things work. I've seen people with 20 times my follower count join in a big "pile on" against someone and their counts rise.

Mastodon is much nicer and there's far less incentive for "allies" to pollute my timeline by performing "dunking" on fascist propaganda.

Where are the Right getting the funding to drive #AntiBlackness #Transphobia and support #conspiracyTheories like #QAnon ? Its not just #HateGrifters bankrolling them. They literally don't have the numbers to afford so much work without billionaire support.

Mind you, he successfully used her much wider platform to massively increase his follower count and influence. His propaganda about his success and values have reached me and you.

That's how #HateGrifters operate on Twitter and the discussion about this wedge issue shows how embedded they are.

1. It bypasses my blocks.
2. Propaganda works. We're not immune.
3. The fascists know the above. That's why they post stupid things like "there are no pronouns in the Bible". It's an "easy dunk." And bingo you've given your audience to the #HateGrifters

Didn't embarrass them. Spread their propaganda. Of course they know what a pronoun is. They're just amusing themselves by getting "allies" to QT and RT and give them publicity that money can NOT buy to get past the blocks and hurt their targets and spread their word. #HateGrifters relied on and reveled in it! Openly saying so!

@futurebird My lived experience is that QT are used for fascist propaganda. Allies "dunking" or "calling out" led to the _repeatedly seen effect_ of spreading fascist propaganda. The #HateGrifters knew about it and used it, again and again and again.

QT, _as used on Twitter_, will be excellent news for fascists. Different restrictions? Maybe good.

13 million users do 90% of Twitters content. Real shame if a fraction of people who tweeted at least once a day left for a non-Nazi site with mods. Real shame. 😀

@schwa You might enjoy the #HateGrifters and #DontSpreadFascistPropaganda tags because whilst many (white male) parts of twitter didn't have constant hate directed at them those that did are familiar with, the dogpiles and the Hate grifters who used and weaponised the feature to get the sort of engagement money literally cannot buy. Enriching the haters, hurting their targets and making it a hostile space with the constant discussion by "allies".

Virality is nice, but it's rarely positive. #BLM was a force for good but the day to day was #HateGrifters using "allies"'s rage to boost their own clout by drawing eyeballs through hate speech.

Maybe there's a social solution, maybe there's a tech support thing that would help with that. IDK.

@folderalconspiracy Sure. Knives can be used for SO many things. They can also be used to stab people.

It's a tool and it drove "discourse" i.e. main character of the day and was weaponised by Trump very effectively and #HateGrifters used it against "allies" by tweeting stuff and then getting the engagement.

So, like, the intersection of say, Black and Trans people may not align here. Can't say for certain but it's a very misused tool.

All the "allies" addicted to feeling angry and fighting "because it's the right thing to do" will still be on Twitter boosting their enemies and wearing themselves out.

Depends on what you want to do.

Most use cases between people I know are a conversation. The cases on Twitter are someone saying something horribly bigoted and "ally" accounts posting words underneath a graphic saying they didn't like the graphic.

1. I have to see the graphic.
2. It drives #HateGrifters engagement by calling bigots and allies to a fight.

The Hate Grifters know and use this outrage to boost their accounts. What use case did you have?

Well... in practice lads it meant that people I thought were safe to follow are boosting content from accounts that I blocked _for the sort of thing they were posting_ by "dunking on it". Driving the #HateGrifters engagement and provoking an endless stream of horrific comments.

I can't speak for everyone only myself, but Mastodon has been a better experience with CW and the absence of performative hate.

Don't mind me though.

@andrew the pouting of those with large accounts has amused me, and I am delighted to help those who I think kind and good people get back on their feet.

Those who prospered by feeding #HateGrifters will find their time on Mastodon harder. Good, I say. Retweeting, reposting and filling my timeline with hate (directed from people I don't follow and had blocked!) To me is something that I kicked back against because it only helped the worst people.
