Tatsache: Auch nach 45 Jahren und ungezählten Wiederholungen, macht mich dieser Sci-Fi-Reißer von John Carpenter noch genau so an, wie zu meinem ersten Mal, mit sechzehn. Gerade weil die Technik sich seither in Quantensprüngen weiterentwickelt hat, steht dieser Film, für mich, noch immer auf Augenhöhe mit allen, die nach ihm kommen sollten… (ARD, Wh.)

Dieser Film ist kein zweiter Teil oder eine Fortsetzung im klassischen Sinne. Es ist viel mehr eine Spiegelung des ersten Films – viel heller ausgeleuchtet, aber noch kälter erzählt. Francis Ford Coppola und Mario Puzo nehmen quasi eine Autopsie dessen vor, was sie im ersten Teil errichtet haben. Die Idee der Familie als Zufluchtsort. Der Mythos des überlebensgroßen Paten wird hier seziert wie ein historisches Szenario aus einer anderen Zeit. (ARTE, Wh.)

I found out that Harry Dean Stanton put out an album as the soundtrack to the documentary about him, and I'm so stoked to be listening to it. Even in his 90s he had a lovely singing voice and a gentle guitar playing style that makes the scene of him performing Red River Valley in Twin Peaks: The Return one of the most emotional moments of the show.

"Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction" is a documentary about one of the most famous character actors, who landed only one lead in his career; if I recall correctly. I've seen some screenshots from this documentary over the years, and Harry Dean Stanton was always so stoic/Buddhist there that I just had to see it for myself in full. I find his approach to life very soothing. I'd like to get old with his dignity.

1984, ich war 19 und mal wieder in Paris. Vom Ruhrgebiet aus ist das näher als Berlin. Nur, weil ich nichts zu tun hatte. Keine Pläne, keine Termine. Ich hatte kein Geld, eine schäbige Unterkunft, nichts zu tun – und dieser Film lief in absolut allen Kinos auf den Champs-Élysées. Nicht in einem Programmkino, nicht versteckt im Quartier Latin, sondern einfach überall. Manche Häuser zeigten ihn parallel in mehreren Sälen. So etwas hatte ich noch nie gesehen. Die Stadt schien sich verschworen zu haben, diesen Film mit offenen Armen zu empfangen – während er in Deutschland gar nicht zu sehen war. (ARTE)
