  6. There’s a dark room in the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork, with 3 stained glass works by Harry Clarke. This photo is one of those and should be seen in person if you’re in Cork.

They were made by Clarke while he was in his early twenties, and still a student at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. In 1911, he was awarded a highly covered gold medal for these at the South Kensington National Competitions.

Scéal casta maidir le fuinneoga daite Harry Clarke suite i gCaifé Bewleys ar Shráid Grafton.

"Rialaigh an Ard-Chúirt gur le húinéir Bewley's ceithre cinn de na sé fhuinneog dhaite a rinne an t-ealaíontóir Harry Clarke atá ar taispeáint sa chaife cáiliúil ar Shráid Grafton i mBaile Átha Cliath, agus gur leis an tionónta an péire eile."

  8. 1919 US edition of Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe, born #OTD in 1809. Jacket design by Irish artist Harry Clarke. #EdgarAllanPoe #HarryClarke #BookCover #illustration

  9. Born #onthisday in 1809, Edgar Allan Poe. Many illustrators have tackled Poe's dark and macabre tales but perhaps none so hauntingly and brilliantly as Irish artist Harry Clarke. The church on Inis Meáin was built in 1939 so I guess its stained-glass windows were designed by the Harry Clarke Studio, rather than by Harry Clarke himself.

  11. #OTD 6th January 1931 Irish artist Harry Clarke died. This image is of his stained glass window entitled ‘The Last Judgement’ in St Patrick’s Church, Newport, Mayo. The work was commissioned in 1926, but installation was not completed until after Clarke’s death. The panel on the right shows the damned being cast down to hell and includes a self-portrait of the artist.

  12. The Geneva Window by Harry Clarke. Originally destined for the ILO in Geneva. However, there was a number of objections to various elements of the design, so it was never installed there.
Sadly, it's now resides outside the country in the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami, Florida.

  13. Over the years I have picked up different #books featuring #illustrations by different #artists for #EdgarAllanPoe stories: #ArthurRackham #Dulac #Satty #HarryClarke #Dore etc and just picked up a #SimonMarsden one (I have several of his #photography books but never illustrated a Poe picture myself until this year. Never felt worthy enough in that company but here is my #MasqueOfTheRedDeath illustration for #SpectralIllusions7TalesOfChromaticHorror book.

    I may do more sometime.
