Tempo Canons (for unspecified quartet)

This piece is a set of five canons, played back-to-back: all four parts play (almost) the exact same thing, but starting at different times and at different pitches. And most interestingly: different tempos.

Question for any #harpist out there: how do you interpret slurs in a #harp part?

For example, if you see a melody or arpeggio spanning a few octaves in a bar or two, and it's obviously one single gesture, do you play it differently if it's under a slur than if it isn't? Which do you prefer to see?

I've noticed I'm not at all consistent about this in my scoring, which makes it look like I want different things when that's not necessarily so.

My first piece for my harp teachers 6 week harp challenge.

The piece is called Early Waltz by Pamela Bruner.

I’ve been learning the harp for a year with my teacher and this is the first piece I learnt with her. #harp #harpist

Am so excited, I just signed up for a Breton Music Harp zoom workshop in November with folk harpist Kevin Le Pennec.

Had a great harp lesson this morning, apparently I'm doing quite well learning the harmonics technique, it helps that I have lots of fat padding on my thumb and fingers 😆

And over the coming weeks I get to learn seven new harp techniques. We're going go to learn one each week, I'm looking forward to using my harp as a percussion instrument 🤩 #harpist

I started learning harmonics on the harp today, I think they'll take a lot of practice to get the technique right, but they're fun though.

Also thanks to the higher string tension and the lowest octave of the harp now being strung metal, my fingers on my left hand are sore. I need to grow stronger calluses 😬 #harp #harpist

I got given four new pieces of work to help learn this. Am excited to learn them as they're Baroque and also Scottish folk tunes. #harp #harpist

My new main thing to work on over the next month is to learn the bottom octave on my harp along with reading the sheet music that low in the bass cleft. #harp #harpist

Just had a great lesson with my new harp. Amelia Earharp needs to be regulated by a harp technician.

They usually come to Dunedin once a year, and luckily he was in my teacher's home today fixing another student's pedal harp, so she's going to pass on my details to him, so he knows I'm on his list. #harp #harpist
