  16. The #idiom “to kill two #birds with one stone” means accomplishing two things with a single action or with a lesser effort than normally we need. This expression exists in other languages with a rich variety of different #animals: #rabbits and #hares, #flies, #pigeons, and #sparrows. They are either hunted or killed. In some languages, however, there is no explicit reference to any animal (green color).

  18. They're heeeeeeeeeeeere ...

Seriously, this is what I see out my front window every night in the winter. Except I was moving and using the blinky-light box when I took this, so they're looking around and trying to figure out how to react to me.

Normally they're all just sitting upright, and all looking directly at me. I'm not kidding.

  19. #Jackrabbit in my front yard today. This isn't the young one I saw yesterday; this is one of the adults that lives in the area.

Unlike true #rabbits, #hares (jackrabbits are hares, not rabbits... complain to someone) don't dig burrows. Instead, they just kind of scoop out a shallow depression in the dirt, and then lie in it. Hares aren't social animals, and live alone, so they don't really need a burrow. When they lie motionless in these bowls with their ears flat against their body and their legs pulled in underneath them, they look surprisingly close to rocks.

This one spent several hours in this spot this morning while it was windy and rainy. I opened the door slowly to get a picture, but after the first "click" sound, he or she took off.

    Captions:

    1) "I'm watching you closely. I don't trust you."
    2) "Nope, I'm outa here."
    3) "I must return to my home planet, my people need me."

  20. I mentioned that #jackrabbits / #hares are solitary and territorial before. As they are cute little #bunnies, some people find it hard to believe.

Here's a short video I shot today. One approaches another, and they start "boxing" and #grunting at each other (sound up!). This one doesn't turn into anything too bad, but if you get a couple of aggressive ones, it can lead to biting and blood and ... hard to believe, for #rabbits.

  21. Two prairie #jackrabbits in the front yard, fiercely doing a little shadowboxing [1] - they aren't contacting each other because they're sitting on opposite sides of the #bunny bowl.

They lose a little of the #gravitas when they plunge their whole face into the food so they're up to the eyeballs in pellets, and then stare balefully at each other while doing crunch crunch crunch...

[1] jackrabbits, which are actually #hares, not #rabbits, are fiercely territorial and will try to chase other hares out of "their" spaces.

  22. Made the hares blue and I think it works so much better - ties them in to the foreground and the elements at the bottom.

    Working on the foxes now.
