Yeah #maggie - not voted for by party members, but by MPs - that was the system in those days. Had the 1970s membership had a say there is no way they would've chosen a mere woman over say Enoch Powell

But direct election by membership rather than MPs - in both major UK parties - has on balance led to more tub-thumping (& less effective) leaders being selected

Good to see #labour has dramatically reduced the possibility of a #hardLeft leader being chosen in future

I don't think it should be up to us - I think #labour should be clear about why current councillors are deselected.

I am not suggesting this is for no good reason - I am saying in the absence of explanation the #hardLeft use these deselections to attack the leadership

So - you are saying this Ross Willmott shares the #hardLeft elision of support for oppressed Palestinians with public dislike of British Jews who do not actively join them in that cause?

Such people should not be in #labour I agree - but are all 19 in Leicester like that?

I still think the party should be open about the reasons people are deselected and provide evidence....
