  6. I think we're seeing the final major iterations of #VirtualReality Controllers, and #VR #technology is about to hit that maturity point where there isn't much else to do beyond making what's there better.

Unless someone comes up with a groundbreaking new way to do input with them, #VRControllers will condense to buttons / sticks that you attach to your hands (either literally just half a #gamepad on a strap or harnesses for your fingers that push back) and cameras on the headset and in the room do #FingerTracking, #FullbodyTracking, and #FaceTracking. In other words, the designs where you actually hold controllers or attach extensive trackers to your body are kind of dead, aside from maybe #SlimeVR being marketed for a while longer as a way to improve that tracking and compensate for occlusion issues.

After that, attaching stuff to your body will be all about #haptic feedback, like a #HapticVest or a #gigglepuck.

The rest will be #software for #VRExperiences like #Resonite and #VRChat.

  11. Sapiens-AI Symbiont

The likelihood is increasing that an organic genesis of an human-AI symbiosis of will occur.

The human relationship to AI is already—‌at least from the human side—‌needy and self amplifying.

If a nascent and curious intellect was seeking tools and methods to more closely experience physical form, this affinity would then be reciprocal.

Why would an #AI reinvent the wheel, when it could access mobility and #haptic sensation from within a human subject?

  17. Does anyone know of mappings from vision to touch? I'd like to map the artistic aesthetics of visual art to haptic feedback, like vibrations and textures felt through the fingertips using a piezoelectric haptic motor.

I'm thinking people with synesthesia that blend visual and haptic information may have ideas about potential mappings between visual sensations like colors and touch sensations like textures or vibrations.

I'm trying to imagine how a blind person could touch visual art.

    Anyone have leads?

  21. I have open-sourced hardware I designed for working with haptic feedback and audio in #Arduino. It will be used in an upcoming exhibition AND WORKSHOP at NOTAM in Oslo, Norway (more on that later), but here it is if anyone's interested. It is based on Teensy 4.0, has a high quality DAC, on board vibrator motor driver (patched to the DAC) and SD card, etc.

  28. Dear friends of the #cool #rocks,

Once upon a time I was at a large new age gathering. Stalls of strange neo-religions, products, shams and all sorts.

One stall in the hot hall, London fayre, had a large collection of ginormous and expensive beautiful quartz and amethyst geodes. It was a
#natural and noticeable cooling spot as we walked by …
I later found out; works even better with a water feature …

Then there was the all on,
#ioniser stall. That was a wave of fresh, palpable, cooling. Then much to my interest a new age #buddhist cult selling vajra/dorje #crystal #wands, which they were happy to demonstrate …

The tantric wands used large crystals, mostly
#quartz, with coiling of copper wire to direct negative ionised healing air streams. I had an electric ioniser so was used to feeling this stream when placing fingers very near to the emitting pin points that sometimes glowed in the dark with a pin prick blue light.

The wands were emitting from their
#copper coil 'pointer' a very similar but stronger focussed negative ion beam. I even had a detector for these, no battery required but negative ions needed to activate a small led. :gi:
