Teamevent #artsandcrafts #ceramics I made a cup. Started with the scene from Gladiator then went Bob Ross happy accident style on it. #happyaccidents

Sharp-edged polygons filled in green and brown, lines remain sandy. That was my idea. Then I failed in applied mathematics (geometry) and colour theory: there are green/green and brown/brown pairs, which might work with the lines but sandy polygons would be a better idea to separate the shapes.

That brown is slightly too bright, and needs more darkening than just an oil wash, I think. Still, I'm not frustrated, it's not a mistake but a happy accident :D

Relearning Watercolour Painting

I have just started taking classes in watercolour painting through Elder College. The instructor is excellent and very encouraging of everyone’s efforts. My first attempts had been decades ago, and I had a brief later try a few years ago.

Without knowing whether or not they would work, I brought my old paints to the class and much to my surprise they were okay. Not great, but good enough for now. I am enjoying the way water interacts with the paint to create happy accidents. So here, with very tentative brushstrokes and aged equipment, are my first efforts.

Recently we did a Bob Ross session at work. The organizers slowed down one of his videos to 40% of its normal speed, and my colleagues and I created a winter landscape filled with happy little trees. I had an absolute blast! 😃

It is 61 degrees and I am on the porch in a t shirt mentally planning gardens for the spring. I am admittedly very bad at planning gardens because I am too indiscriminate in my love of plants. Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf had the best advice for home gardeners: “Buy the plants you like, don’t try to be a designer”

I found this morning by accident that if you put your search in quotes (eg. "search terms") it searches in your own posts rather than out there. This worked on the mstdn.social website, in Tusky for Android, and Sengi on Linux. Possibly not a global feature and maybe my results are an anomaly.
